Hello everyone! I actually didn't realize I had this account until after I tried signing up earlier... so this is perhaps long overdue! The desire to join in all the threads that I've been poring over the past few days, weeks, longer; has reached a breaking point!
I've been interested in photography for quite a long time, I always liked taking the family camera (a Nikon D80) around and being the "family photographer" at events. Around the early 2010s I started watching videos and following review sites to oogle at the cool new cameras!! Actually, I believe it was only these three: DigitalRev, Steve Huff, and Ken Rockwell. Kai and Ken might have purely been responsible for my growing interest in photography lol. I even ended up taking a media course in school where we did black and white photography, developing, and printing! That was my first foray into film photography that wasn't using my mom's camera when I was very young or a disposable camera. But I never ended up buying a new camera for myself despite wanting to and almost taking a leap at a deal in 2020 (saw a used Zeiss Ikon ZM kit on ebay for 1200, didn't trust it, I should have...).
As my account states, I am from New York, but for a while now I've been based in New Jersey! A neat place I found is this nice little camera shop in Princeton that's been fun to visit! The owner is nice and I usually just like to check out all the used cameras they sell there, it's quite cool to get a chance to hold any of those cameras that you'd only see pictures of for the longest time!
All this time I've been taking photos casually, just using my phone. Still, I've long held an "academic" interest in photography too, and I found myself back here just a few months ago trying to find more information about some interesting terminology I saw another user use on the Bluray forum. Then, noticing that people were talking about things I was interested in, I started looking for answers to other questions I had in the back of my mind. Threads about film qualities, about scanning, how emulsions work, sensitization, the limits of what's possible, many times with the Great Photo Engineer sharing his two cents, as well as countless others. Yet my incessant hunt for information about photochemistry continues...
Hopefully I'll be joining you all soon by taking the leap to get some more real hands-on experience, but before then I have an endless avalanche of questions that I'll be looking forward to discussing!! I really look up to a bunch of people here because they have an endless amount of insight and experience!
Looking forward to it!
