Hi all. Found this site while reading a thread at iphotoforum.

A little about me: 26 years old, married, photography enthusiast.

I basically only shoot film. The digital camera is my wife's. I mainly shoot with my hasselblad 500 cm. Hopefully I'll be adding some more lenses soon. I also shoot 35mm with canon equipment and hope to get into LF at some point.

My areas of interest are architecture and landscape photography. I'd love to do sports, but don't have the cash for fast primes. I also do a wee bit of portraiture, all natural light, although I'm not very good. Exposure is almost always spot on, but the posing thing needs a bit of work.

Alright, I think I've rambled on long enough.

Hi Jim, welcome aboard!

Millville? Ha! There's a town that brings back some memories. My wife and I sold her late Father's house in Dividing Creek a couple of years back. How were the green-headed flies this year? Those little bastards have been known to carry off small children and domestic animals...

Some of us Jersey (and NY) APUGers are getting together this Saturday in Asbury Park. I know it's a bit of a drive for ya'll (about 2 hours), but you're welcome to tag along.

Jim -

Yes - I know Millville - it's close to one of my favorite places, Peters Valley Craft Center. You live in a great area for photography, especially landscape work. The morning light in that area is wonderful, especially on those mornings when the fog rolls in.

There aren't any green heads where we are. We actually live right on Route 49 and away from the water. Actually we live with my in-laws for the time being. I don't know the area all that well since I'm from Marlton. I would assume the greenheads are bad down by the Maurice River. I know how bad they are in Greenwich though.

Thanks for the invite to Asbury Park. I used to live North of there in Eatontown. I'd call it closer to 1.5 hours, but I drive fast. Haha.

Welcome fellow Joisey (hmm, Scot transplant maybe?) Guy!!!

Now... if only we could convine the rest of the country that, although we may seem like the "Armpit of America" we really do have some great opportunities for landscapes (National Geo's zip-code feature on the Newark area didn't help much... made North Jersey out to be NYC suburb)

(Note to George... is our old buddy Dale still alive in Willingboro?)

Hey, Jim,

Welcome from Lumberton, about 40 miles north of you. (About 2 miles from George Losse, although I've been too busy to try to hook up with him yet....)

What activity did you work with? I'm at PM DCASS (Project Manager, Defense Communications and Army Switched Systems) in Squier Hall.

Welcome aboard. It seems like NJ is very well represented here at APUG. Maybe we could lay claim as the capital territory of the film based empire! lol

wow, that is a lot of Jerz in here. This is probably the best thread to make my first post, too; I'm new to photography and have been reading APUG for a few weeks now. I just started Photo II classes at my local arts center in Little Rock, and unknowingly fell into a rangefinder clan because I inherited a nice user Canon 7s from my dad. Oh yeah, I moved here about 10 months ago from Philadelphia by way of Ocean Township, N.J. That's the Ocean in Monmouth County, not the one down south.

I actually just got back from a trip there, too, so hopefully soon I can post some pics of Asbury and AC.

Here's one more! I was getting ready to post a li'l "Hi, I'm a new guy" message, but I saw yours and figgered I'd just jump on.

Yeah, I know Millville. I'm in Haddon Township. I know Mt. Holly, too -- I go to Dadz whenever the Billy Hector Trio is playing there. Ft. Monmouth? Took an Army electronics course there when I was in the Marines three or four lifetimes ago. And I know all about the green heads -- they're in Fortesque, another one of the stomping grounds. Merchantville. Lumberton. Willingboro. Dang! Never imagined there'd be so many APUG members here in Jerzey!

Welcome from another Jersey guy. BTW, "Joisey" only comes from the unread Hudson County types. They are New Yorkers that got lost in the PATH system and could not find their way home. It's a Hollywood sterotype.

Hi Jim,

Here's another one! Welcome from Central Jersey! I am in Plainsboro. Have you been to the Princeton University campus? I find it quite interesting for architecture photography. I've been to Milville only once - a couple of years ago for an airshow. I don't know the area. Can you direct me to some places for good landscape photography?

Welcome once more! You will find this place full of wonderful and very knowledgeable people - as you may have noticed by now.

LOL! Yeah, its also fostered by watching too many episodes of the Soprano's.

Does the "Jersey Division" of APUG ever get together? I'm new to large format and would love to "get schooled" by more experienced shooters. I noticed more than a few LF shooters here.

Bob01721, Yes, two weeks ago about ten of us from the tri-state area met in Asbury Park. It may happen again at Sandy Hook in the fall. Waiting now for the summer crowds to thin out. A good place to check out large format because there were a lot of big cameras there. Follow the regional section for updates. Check out the pics from Asbury. A great bunch, I wish I could have stayed longer.

Darn! Asbury Park, eh? One of my favorite bands was playing in Belmar two weeks ago! If only I had known! Story of my life.

Tri-state? Down this way, that usually means NJ, PA, and DE. But I assume you mean NJ, PA, and NY? Either way, Sandy Hook sounds good for the fall. I'll keep a lookout. Thanks.

rats! That was probably right about the same time that I was home (and around my first APUG post, one page back in this thread). And I live 15 minutes from there, too. First time back in forever, and I was heartbroken I couldn 't take photos of Tillie. The real Tillie, not the Wonder Bar mural. I did get shots of jetty fishing, though, which I did as a kid.

EDIT: OK, I was in Jerz the week before the meet. I feel slightly better that I missed barging on the session by days and not merely a couple miles.

It may happen again at Sandy Hook in the fall. Waiting now for the summer crowds to thin out.

I love explaining Bennies Go Home Day. Or Shoobies Go Home, depending on longitude.
