Hello,

I am a 16 year old high school fellow from Little Rock, AR. I got seriously interested in photography about a year ago, and bought a digital point and shoot camera. I outgrew that, and eventually bought a Nikon N80 a few months later, which I am really happy with. I have yet to take a course, and everything I know is self-taught or learned from photography communities like this. For Christmas this year my only big want was to set up a darkroom, just a small temporary one where I could develop film and make prints and such. It's not done yet, but rome wasn't built in a day, either. I've already learned a lot from reading this forum over the last few days, and hope I can become a more complete photographer while I'm here.

Thanks.

Hi, It's always great to see a young person who is pursuing traditional photography. It is a wonderful creative medium and you'll find many helpful people in this forum who will be happy to answer questions.
Welcome aboard!

Age is a matter of the mind, if you don't mind it doesn't matter.

Hi Maurilio, from just down the road in Alabama.

One of my favorite prints comes from the Arkansas Delta area, about 40 miles west of Memphis.

Maurilio,

Check out what the Arkansas Arts Center offers in the way of photography courses. Their focus is on teaching fine art black and white (which includes processing film and printing). One great thing about the courses there, is that after Photo I, when you take a follow-up course, you have access to the dark room on your own time. The Art Center Museum School in one of the great resources available in the area--in the state for that matter.

Here's the link: http://www.arkarts.com

Look under the museum school. The catelog is there. Classes start next week so . . .be quick. If cash flow is a problem. . .they give some scholarships.

I normally teach Photo I (I'm taking a break this term) so if you have questions, please don't hesitate to contact me.

In fact, the Art Center has a fantastic exhibit up in conjuction with the Clinton Library opening of photos by Diana Walker - Whitehouse photography with photographs of everyone from Jimmy Carter to the Clintons.

bump for another Arkansan -- and most likely a student of CEN3. If that's Charlie, he's a damn good teacher, and I highly recommend his class, and the AAC program in general.

I gave a brief hello in another thread about Jersey, where I was born (though I claim Philly), but basically I'm new and coming late to photography. Weird, becuase a few of my good friends are professional skateboard photographers and my girlfriend is a video photog, but I never had any interest in using a camera until this year. (I'm twice Maruilio's age.) Now I shoot film, 35mm and 6x7 rangefinders, and the AAC classes have got me thoroughly addicted.

So is that it for APUG and Arkansas? Three? Well, at least it's a magic number.
