Hi there,
New from Italy, Torino, in the north-west of our small country. I't been quite a while now since my registration to APUG.org, it's do to the fact that I am an amateur photographer and in your rich forum, dense with pros and experts I've always been quite intimidated to join in the club. Anyhow, I found courage and here I am, class of '78, born in Sardinia (Italian island in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea) with a camera around my neck (and my father's, it was his first parcel after his master, a canon ae-1). I interrupted my photographical activity from 19 to 25 and then restarted, a little bit more seriously. I've always owned a reflex system and in relatively recent times a DSRL. But it wasn't enough. I tried rangefinders. And many things changed and are changing. To the point of considering a permanent and total change towards them. I also develop and print my own "rangefinder works", but concentrate much more on the first step of photography, composition, feelings, ideas and visions through choosing the right frame, the right exposition, focus and instant.

Thank you for your community, I hope to be as useful as I can. See ya!

Welcome alfa,

Glad to see you post an introduction. I've been doing a bit of reading about your country lately, so it is good that you have introduced yourself. BTW, there are other members here from Italy, so feel free to speak up and join in the conversations.

Thanks alfa for your comments on my work. I am reading a book called "Brunelleschis Dome" about how the dome was constructed on the Santa Maria del Fiore, the cathedral of Florence. Interesting to read about the history of Florence. I've never been to Italy, but one day I may.

Welcome, Alfa,

Don't assume that everyone here is an "expert" or "pro." Almost all of us would admit to various mistakes (really dumb ones, sometimes), and we all continue to learn from experience and each other.

Wlecome Alfa! Don't be intimidated by the pros and experts. There's plenty of us amateurs here just getting better everyday by what we learn.

welcome Alfa! Being half Italian and in fact still have relatives over there in Corfinio, I know there are wonderful people and scenes to record and I hope to see some of your images of them in our galleries.

Hi Alpha,

Welcome. I believe the real experts here will be the ones to confess that they really don't know much at all (and I include myself as one who knows little).

I still have family in Turin and the surrounding area. My grandfather came to the USA from Vidracco up near Ivrea after serving in the Alpini during WWI.

Welcome to APUG, it's a great place to learn, hang out, shoot the breeze, most anything really.

I am planning a trip to Italy early next year for my family so lots or research going on now. Can't wait.

And Torino huh, upcoming Winter Olympics capital isn't it? Will be lots of fun to be had I'm sure.

Welcome Alfa! I was fortunate enough to spend a few weeks in and around Torino a few summers ago. Even with all of the construction that was going on in preparation for the Olympics, Torino was still one of the most beautiful cities I'd been to. Between the beauty of the city, the amazing coutryside, and the warmth and kindness of the people, I hope to visit again someday soon.

Hi alfa

Good to have you on the APUG bandwagon - friendliest photo community in cyberspace.

I am due to visit San Quirico d'Orcia again in May for 1 week with a group of Light and Land clients. Loved it last year and shot so much film, it would be foolish not to repeat the experience!

So many messages!! Thank you everyone!!

Yes, Torino is a total "mess" at the moment, the city seems under attack due to the enormous presence of policemen. It's filled with foreigners (and this can only help to open up some minds...) and colours. The excitement is rising, today we'll have the opening cerimony.

Saluti anche a tutti gli italiani (non mi aspettavo di vederne così tanti da queste parti).

Thank you once more for this comunity, level is high so it's a good place to learn something.

Cheers,
