Hi Gang

Just thought I'd say hello!

I discovered apug recently while grazing on the internet for sites dealing with "old fashioned" photography. What a great find!! I've spent some time reading through some of the threads - there's a lot of useful knowledge here - I'm going to like it!

I'm rediscovering photography - was last really "in to it" in my teens, and then life got in the way. So far, I've dusted off my cameras (OM2, Yashica TLR, Trip35) and started to get together the bits and pieces to build a (very modest) darkroom in my bathroom. At the moment, my interests lie with B&W, and maybe a little colour reversal with the TLR.

I started an evening class at a local college which should be a big help.

Thanks to everybody for such a warm welcome.

I'm delighted to be a paid subscriber, after all this is an amazing resource, and the annual subsciption is very modest considering the huge amount of time and effort that it must take to run something like apug.

apug member "bogeyes" has been a huge help to me by scanning and emailing me a copy of the manual for a Durst AC707 enlarger - that's saved me time and money already!

It's a beautiful morning here with patches of fog around, so I'm off out to burn some film before it burns off

Later!

Gerry,

Sorry I missed you! I was in Irleand for two years, having just left in July. You got to hook up with Peter in Trim ("thefizz") -- great guy, lots of fun, knows his stuff, and loves photography. He also knows a lot of totally cool places to shoot!

You're in an awesome community here full of folks who love to help others, who love to give advice, who love to argue, but who are crazy about film and determined to keep it alive. You'll love it here, so check in every day, post your thoughts and questions, and jump in whenever you feel like it! And you have at least two other APUGgers in Eire, so get to know them all!

(www.rogerandfrances.com -- and Amateur Photographer every week).

Awesome website Roger - I've been having a quick browse this evening - hope to spend more time exploring at the weekend.

Well.... on Sunday evening I processed my first film (the first since I was 17 years old, anyway  ). The magic is still there! I had run a roll of Ilford FP4+ through my ancient Yashica B TLR during the week, and processed it in Rodinal. The negs are a bit thin, because I messed up the chemistry - I mixed the Rodinal at 1+100 instead of 1+50 . I think that I may be able to salvage one or two though once I get my mini (bathroom) darkroom set up.

On Sunday I visited an antiques fair in Ennis, County Clare, and found a Ensign Selfix 420 (dual format 6x6 and 6x9) folding camera for 40 Euros. It's in amazing condition and looks like it left the factory last week, rather than 70 years ago. Today I took it on an outing just to see what I can get from it. The weather today was very changeable, and the sun only came out when I was between locations, of course . I've just processed it (at 1+50 this time!!) and it looks as though I've got some decent negs...

I'm off to my photography night class shortly - we're supposed to be doing night shots of the exterior of the cathedral tonight, but unless the rain eases off I think the instructor may have to come up with a plan B!

I'm going to enjoy putting the old folder up against some of the megagigapixel hardware that some of my classmates are fond of
