Hello everyone,

I am a (relatively) new member of APUG, my name is Raphael (suprising, isn't it ?), I am 36, and I work as a computer scientist.

I am impassionated with photography since many years. Although computers are my scope, I have the annoying inclination to not act as everybody, I don't go digital and I prefer film cameras

I shot primarly in 35mm with reflexes, but as I become to be a sort of camera collector, I begin recently to use RF. I am fond of old "communist" cameras, like German Prakticas, or Russian FEDs, but I use Japanese reflexes too (Nikon and Fuji STX2).

I shot equally in Medium Format, with a venerable Pentacon Six, with Carl Zeiss Jena lens.

I own a (basic) darkroom too, I process my B&W film and prints myself, and I project to try E6 process in a near future.

So many APUG forums to browse, so little time...

Bienvenue à APUG. Il y a des discutations en français aussi, mais les mieux sont en anglais parce que la plupart des participants parlent anglais. J'espère que tu viendras à sentir que c'est un environ confortable pour toi.

Malgre plus de trois ans en France, mon francais est encore affreux comme vous pouvez voir, et je vous felicite pour votre anglais. Le probleme, c'est que j'ecris presque plus les jours en anglais (voir www.rogerandfrances.com) et c'est difficile penser en francais -- et un clavier AZERTY est presque impossible apres QWERTY.

Vous habitez ou? Je me trouve pas loin de Poitiers, aupres de Loudun.

Bonjour de l'île du wight, sud de l'Angleterre. J'aime la France. La dernière fois j'étais là était pour le festival de guitare de Django Reinhardt à Samois (je sais. il était Belgian !).

Steve, Django was not Belgian (he was born in Belgian territory...). Il etait Gitan (gypsy). Beethoven etait ne en Belgique, aussi, mais on dit qu'il etait Allemand... Bill Brandt etait ne en Allemagne (Hamburg) mais on le traite d'Anglais. Mais je pense que Django ne serait pas tellement content d'etre traite de Belge... Par contre, Philippe Catherine est purement Belge (et un tres bon guitariste, d'ailleurs).

Je suis desole, mais mon ordinateur Grec (avec logiciel Americain) ne me permet pas d'utiliser les accents (graves-aigus, etc)...

Yes. French words forced into English phrases probably! Still, it's better than not bothering at all.

You're absolutely correct. I was generalising too much.

I see a 'hello from Germany' thread has just appeared. I had better not try my German out as the only phrases I remember are 'where is the cat?' and 'the cat is on the table'.

Peut-être tu veux essayer le clavier français-canadien... je trouve que ce n'est pas terriblement de different du clavier anglais. Toutes les lettres sont exactement ou un anglophone penserait qu'ils se situent.

Welcome from Florida.

All of these attempts at French remind me of a French high school girl who came here as an exchange student. She was staying with my TV station's General Manager, and to occupy her, he dumped her off in the station newsroom. She spoke almost no English, and only one of us spoke any French. She was sitting at a desk looking bored and lonely, so I carried over my CD player, handed her the headphones and hit play.

"Oh, is French." she exclaimed. "Good, good."

"Can you understand it?" I asked.

"Yes, yes. Good French."

I was playing for her a Buckwheat Zydeco CD. I guess that shows that Cajun/Creole is still good enough French to be understood. Not so sure redneck English from the same part of the country could be understood by an Englishman. Ha.

For those of you who want to type accented characters - look here: http://www.genealogia.fi/faq/faq008e.htm

For example: to type é keep the 'Alt' key held down whilst you type 130 then let go. As if by magic, é appears!

Apologies to those who already knew this.

Je me trouve sur le point le presque le plus à l'ouest de France (îles misent à part) en Bretagne (Brittany) , près de Brest. Nous ne sommes pas encore trop loin ! Quelqu'un qui utilise des phrases comme celle-ci à le Français pour langue maternelle, même s'il est a Athènes ! Je me trompe ?

It is a funny thing ! The last time I saw a documentary with Cajun people on it, on the French TV, there was subtitles in French to explain his words ! But they (TV people's) have tendancy to add subtitles each time a person is not speaking a clear pure French from the Left Bank of Paris (with accents, for example) ! In the documentary, the man seems to be a true Bayou people, it can explain the very peculiar diction. A friend of mine said to me that some of the Cajun people of Louisiane emigrated from the French region of Poitou (the region where is currently Roger). In such rural area, people speaked during a long time a "patois", a French dialect with very peculiar figure and his own vocabulary, changing with the region of France. Even, at the present time, I have difficulties to understand certain persons from the "deep" Brittany

Ok, I stop here my gossip, and to be understand by the most, I use English in the future, but I will glad to receive private message in French, if some people wants to exercice their own !
