I have noticed only recently, that it is a habit to write few words about yourself here. It is sadly not my first post, but let me fix it
I have been shooting for 10 years total, 8 years full time for real estate agencies. So I come from digital commercial work. In that time I almost gave up twice, considering becoming a woodworker instead. But in both cases I decided to put the energy I would need to spend to start new bussiness into the photography instead and somehow it worked out.
In the last couple of years I started noticing one thing and that is I can identify a movie shot on color film, the colors are quite different, more beautiful.
So 3 months ago, after another crysis I purchased mamiya rb67, in mint condition, with 100-200mm zoom lens. And boy, it is a heavy beast (5kg). I am used to heavier equipment, my video camera setup has around 10kg, but you cannot be really discreete with such a device and once you photograph people all the eyes are on you
also the lenses are very slow and I am not a huge fan of bokeh.
So I got another camera, Chinon CE2 Memotron with 50mm f1.2 neat camera with good metering, also like mamiya built to last longer than roman empire. And mainly it is m42 thread so I have around 30 years of great native lenses to choose from. The only downside is the terrible focus assist, I can focus better without it and it rather just blocks my view
but hey, it is what it is.
The very first roll I shot on the rb67. My whole career I believed my hand is extremely steady because I can do 3-4 sec expositions freehand, but no '
I just have a great stabilisation, on film I cannot hold still for even 1/3 sec. I had the roll developed in lab. My first film picture was my moms soup.
Shooting with waist level finder is really not for me, so I got the prism later.
My first developing in improvised darkbathroom was fun too. I have shot on Ilford 3200, decided to develop in rodinal to get the GRAIN.
But my frankensteined temperature control system had short circuit flashes I have noticed only after 3rd roll. It could have striked me earlier when the electricity in the whole floor went down '
I am an aspiring woodworker, not electrician.
So out of the 3 rolls I got 1 roll worth of film with at least some information, but flashing the film with short circuit made some funny things to it
Also I guess there is some way to set double exposure on the Chinon, because I accidentally made some
I like how unpredictable and raw it turned out. I decided to keep my faulty temperature control system and not finding out how the double exposure setting works
Getting a little bit of chaos is sometimes good.
Then equipped with new experiences I have shot another couple of rolls on the rb67, this time it worked out almost great, but I will need to reseal the camera.
So far I have learned many things thanks to the community here. I am quite excited such place exists, because I am used to information in the craft being shared by influencers and not professionals, so in the end I have just learned to ignore everything I heard and developed my own methods. But here people approach the craft with scientific method.
I hope to pay back things I learn here with sharing my own methods and research. I shared few things so far, but analog workflow is very new to me.
I might be maybe little hard to get along with sometimes. My sense of humor isnt for everyone and maybe I say truth at times, which dont ask for the truth. But generally I think Im quite calm and peaceful being, like the cows.
