Hello from central Massachusetts

Hi all,

My name is Bill Hahn. I shoot 35mm film and digital, medium format, large format (4x5) and even do some pinhole work. My wet darkroom skills are minimal: I
can develop my 35mm B&W film and occasionally make prints with my little
Beseler cadet enlarger. I've also made contact prints from 4x5 B&W negatives...
However, usually I scan film to make inkjet prints, with which I'm almost never
happy. About the only manipulation I do is speck removal and maybe contrast.
(I've been programming computers since 1966, for relaxation I don't want to
sit in front of a computer!)

Photography is a hobby, not a profession, and the time I have for it is generally
limited to the weekends. Since I have a long commute, I generally try to shoot
locally.

Things I'm fond of shooting: landscapes, macro shots with water/dew drops,
anything with lots of texture --- I really like rusty, badly painted hinges. I can give
no rational reason for these preferences. I'm less good at portrait/people photography. (Grew up with shutterbug parents - I hated having my picture taken.)

On the summer weekends i can frequently be found at Fruitlands Museum in
Harvard, Massachusetts, shooting landscapes with my 4x5 large format camera.

Welcome Bill, from the far away state of Hawaii. I think you will really enjoy it here, as long as you don't mention the d****l word too much.

I too am a programmer by day (although, not as long as you); when I am away from work the last thing I want to do is look at the computer. I used to shoot a lot of 35mm, but have transitioned to 4x5 almost exclusively over the past year. I try to shoot in the afternoons after work - yesterday I was at a place called 'Luilua Fishpond' on the north shore - and on Sunday.

I don't think I can make this Sunday - but just wanted to point out that there is also an exhibit at the Fitchburg Art Museum (www.fitchburgartmuseum.org) which has some prints from Brett Weston, Paul Caponigro, Berenice Abbott, and two beautiful color prints from Christopher Burkett.
