Hi to all and thank you for letting me join your forum. I am 61 years old and have been shooting since 1972. Yesterday, I purchased my first medium format camera, a Mamiya 645 AFD kit and looking so forward to getting out and shooting next week.

I have been shooting digital for the last 5 years but always missed the enjoyment I got from film. I was about to order a new digital camera when I noticed this kit in the used department on the B&H website. I knew right then it was my calling to not only return to the enjoyment of film but also to finally get into medium format that I have been wanting to do since the 1970's. The only reason it took so long was that I never was able to afford a MF system but thanks to digital it is now possible.

The one thing that I noticed in reading posts on this forum was the lack of rude people that I have encountered on other forums. It seems that everyone here is truly passionate about helping each other. I am looking forward to getting to know everyone and getting out and experiencing what I have missed for so long. Thank you again for the add to the forum.

Welcome to the forum, Mike! There are/were a few rude people here but most of them are no longer around. If you ever encounter a rude person, just use the good old ignore function! Cheers from Canada!

Welcome from your neighbor (well, a few thousand miles away) in Mississippi. I just spent 16 fabulous days on a Grand Canyon rafting trip. Arizona has spectacular scenery! Good for you with the Mamiya 645 kit; it will be rewarding.

Medium format auto focus, nice! People here are pretty nice, I have been at this as long as you, I've learned a lot from these folks. Global community here, very nice.

Sounds like me. 63, started in 1970, got into medium format just a few years ago, because it is finally affordable (Pentax 67). Never did digital, though. Do you do darkroom? I have always had one; maybe thus the resist6ance to digital.

Welcome, you dumb jerk!

Just kidding!

I love my Mamiya RB67, so I have reason to believe your new kit won't let you down. I hope you will post photos.

Welcome! I recently rediscovered this forum after years in the digital wasteland. I still use digital, but film is a real pleasure to shoot and an exercise in mindfulness. The best thing about digital photography is that it has reduced the prices for film equipment!

Welcome! I don't think people on here strive to be rude; passionate, opinionated maybe but always helpful. We don't all agree on everything but its nice to have the variety of opinions and all the good knowledge in one place.

Looking forward to your participation!

How sad. I thought that I was being "rude" and I now find out that I am like all the rest. Just joking, I think. Welcome to the group. I think you are going to enjoy Medium Format. Please do photograph a Saguaro even if you must leave home to do so. The closest thing to a native desert plant here is a member of the Opuntia Family. Too wet here for most. We do have a few Roadrunners running around a nearby golf course. They, along with scissor-tailed flycatchers, showed up during a drought back in the 1950s. We already had Armadillos and scorpions........Regards!
