Hello APUG,
I am somewhat of a wayward user of the site and feel that I want to re-introduce myself. I joined in 2009 and have occasionally perused the site as my interest with film photography waxes and wanes. My preferred cameras are those with a light meter in them but no other assistance. I also enjoy shooting 6x6 on my classic Rolleiflex compur rapid with a handheld lightmeter. I rarely post on forums in general as I have thought that I probably should stay quiet unless I have anything of value to contribute to the community.
On that point I would like to introduce a project that I have been working on in my spare time which I have dubbed Filmophile. I am a student studying databases and I was thinking one day that I should really make a project that reflects my interest in databases, programming and photography. The idea of the software is to assist darkroom users with some of the common things that you may look up on the internet. Currently (in a very early stage) all the program supports is looking up some films and then
This is an open source project and I am not asking for any money, however I could use help in getting some film development times. To that end if anyone wants to help just go to https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1Ao...y.1459777621&entry.109765910&entry.1406363026.
Which is a google form where you can fill out development options for film, this will help me enormously and means I won't be stealing anything from the fantastic community at digital truth.
If you would like to take a look at the source code for what I have done in the project so far you can go to https://www.dropbox.com/sh/elvmf252z6f3d5p/AAA-yeXaT9RmWlBMdPhNpDqFa?dl=0 and find the files currently hosted on drop box (you do not need an account to download the files). The project is currently written in Python 3.3 and uses a Sqlite database to hold the film information. If you would like to see more of my thoughts on It I have a little blog post here https://lordlinks.wordpress.com/2015/12/29/super-alpha/
The short of it is I have many ideas a limited time to make this happen but seeing as the people who may be most interested are here at APUG I would like to give you the opportunity to both help me in making this software and tell me the things that you feel are lacking in analogue photography software.
As a final note I do not want this to become a clone of the good work that has been done by the people over at digital truth. The original intention is for me to put into practice some of the things I have been learning at University not to try to take market share off another analogue photography community.
I welcome any ideas brought forth by the community. Please be aware that I am a student trying to finish my degree and I also have a fairly heavy workload so progress will be very slow. Thank you for taking the time to read and thank you for being an interesting community that has often helped me with many a tricky question. I hope to have a little more contact with the community form now on
(P.S. Mods feel free to move this if there is a better location for such a post.)
