Yes, Rhode Island...not an island, but the smallest state. A temporary stop for me, as I’ve lived all over.

So, I’m a 50 year old automotive restorer and fabricator with a business I’ve run now for 30 years. First out west from ‘90-06, and back east from 07 til now. My father was a semi professional photographer in the 70s, shooting sporting events in and around the Boston area and F1 at Watkins Glen. I grew up playing with Nikons and Hasselblads. I’ve dabbled in photography my whole life, but stopped shooting film around 2003/2004, when digital started to look interesting. I’m back to shooting film for anything I care about, using the phone/camera for snapshots-

Looking forward to becoming part of this eclectic group!

Welcome! Cameras and cars do seem to work well together.

What types of cars do you restore? What parts do you fabricate? (my husband has done a couple as a hobby - only the '70 Challenger is drivable so far)

I specialize in 1950-58 VW buses and 1950s Porsches. As far as fabricating goes, pretty much whatever you need! I mig/tig/gas weld, have a full wood shop, and spray all types of paint from nitro lacquer to single stage urethanes. I have an order right now for portable animation studio boxes made from aluminum and wood- as well as a 1955 VW bus and 58 Porsche Speedster in the shop—

That is a gorgeous pic! (I'm partial to Porsches now - just got a MacanS).

I used to live in MA - enjoy New England while you're there. Great places to shoot up there.

Welcome from a former Rhodie (URI, 1978, Oceanography). There was, back then, a lot of interesting photographic material, such as old mills, remnants from the early stage of the industrial revolution in the United States. I would not mind moving back to RI.

Welcome Mark! I actually do get out to RI occasionally for work. Any hope for this VW (not mine, but see it parked occasionally)?

What part of California are you in? I probably know the owner of that bus. I understand it looks abandoned, but it’s not. Probably has a dual carb 2110 in it, and a $10k suspension with airbags..
Not my cup of tea, but it’s what’s happened to a lot of the old buses—

Where about in RI? I used to live off of Mineral Spring Ave in N. Providence and later Jamestown.

So why do they call it Rhode Island is it's not an island
Giovanni da Verrazzano named it that in the 1500s. Aquidneck Island ( Newport ) he thought looked like Rhodes (as in Greece) the state's actual name is Rhode Island and Providence Plantations

Part of the state is an island, and the original name was “Providence Plantations and Islands” or some such nonsense. It was shortened to “Rhode Island”.....I know...very misleading!

Hi Mark- definitely not abandoned as I see it in different locations. I am in Southern California, east of LA in the Inland Empire area.

Welcome to Photrio from a former Bay Stater now residing in Tucson. There are a lot of great people in the New England area.
