I'm looking for a hood for my Bronica ETRSi system and am considering the Heliopan collpsible rubber hood (62mm). The blurb says it is suitable for wide angle lenses when collapsed but does not give an angle of view. Does anyone know whether this hood is suitable for a 40mm lens (24mm equivalent)? Note yhat I generally use this lens stopped down to f8 or below.
Here you go. Looks like information overload, but I guess it answers the question. Me, I just put a ground glass on the film plane and ck w/ a loupe to see if anything is vignetting wide open if I'm curious.
David thanks for the info but I can't find the BW rubber WA hood in 62mm either on the Schneider website or at B&H. The only rubber one is for standard lenses; and although there is a metal WA hood I am hoping to find one yhat will be suitable for usr with my 75mm and 135mm lenses as well.
Momus thanks for the interesting technical article. However this is a pre-purchase enquiry and I don't have dimensions for the hood so cannot do the analysis for it!
The real Bronica ETRSi hood for 40/50mm lens measures 103mm x 83mm internal opening size, at the forward edge measuring 44mm out from where the bayonet rests against the lens.
So I would estimate that a round hood project no more than 35mm forward, rather than 44mm for a rectangular hood of the dimensions I provided.
Wiltw thanks for the dimensons - very helpful. That's quite a hood! Given the analysis momus linked to, it doesn't seem as though the Heliopan hood would be nearly as effective so perhaps I'll just get the original hood for the 40mm.
David thanks for the info. Yes I was wondering if it might have been discontinued or replaced by the metal one.
