This June I will be vacationing in New Orleans and am aware the temperature and humidity will be very high. I am concerned about condensation forming inside my camera and lenses when entering an air conditioned building. Obviously placing the camera in the bag before entering is a good idea, but is this practice alone adequate to avoid condensation damaging my equipment? The camera I am bringing is not weather sealed.
I think that the plastic bag will keep the moisture in the camera and will still condense in an air conditioned building. However, you will be there a short time and when you return home the moisture will evaporate. In fact if you fly home, the interior or the airplane at altitude will pull the moisture from your camera.
Go on your vacation and have a good time with your camera.
Water condenses on colder things. Water from the air will condense when you bring the cold camera from the air-conditioning into the humid outside air. I'm not sure I would worry about it.
I think the inside of your camera and lens will be ok. However, you might need a to wait a few minutes after bringing the camera outside for the front of your lens to de fog before you can shoot. One trick I do on a road trip is when leaving the motel room and putting the camera in the car, I take the camera out of the bag and put it in the seat of the car(put it in the back seat so the car's A/C won't delay the warming process). That way it will warm up quicker and usually by the time I get to where I'm going to take my first shot the lens is ready.
Lens and finder condensation happens to me most frequently when I've carried the camera in the front seat with the a/c directly on it then get out of the car.
But there are some days when conditions cause fogging on glass surfaces when held up to my eye, even after the lens and camera have warmed. I haven't figured a solution except to go back in the house.
I grew up there. Never had to do anything different w/ the cameras. The humidity is not going to be that bad, but it IS going to be hot that time of year. Try and do most of your various things at night or very early morning.
