Heard a rumor...

A few friends of mine have told me that Fuji Reala has been discontinued in 120 size.
Of course, I instantly became very upset and went searching for some information to back this up, but thankfully, found nothing saying anything either way.
So far I've just been attributing it to the fact that Calumet seems to have stopped carrying it and doesn't feel like explaining why, so they just say it's discontinued.

I may however, be mistaken, which would mean it was time to go stock up on that shit.
Has anyone heard anything about this?

Here's a thought - although I don't know if it will work. Why not ask this question over at: Dead Link Removed

It's a FujiUK-sponsored site so they should have some info if it has been discontinued by the manufacturer.

It does not matter if it is true. You can use Pro 160S. I was one of the first users of Reala, and I have switched to NPS and then Pro 160S already. Reala was special when it was the first and only film to have the 4th color layer. But now all the Fuji print films have it.

You know, I've always thought that "4th layer" thing was more marketing than a true innovation, as all Color film has multiple (more than three) layers to control color balance and crossover.....

I agree that the term 4th color layer is marketing speak. Color film has more like 16 layers from a coating point of view.

But no matter what you call the technology used, at the time of its introduction, no other color film had the truth of color combined with high saturation that Reala had. (There was a bit of crossover in the beginning if I remember correctly, but they improved on that.)

But that was something like 15 years ago, and others (Fuji and non-Fuji product) have caught up.

I've tried NPS and NPC and neither of them really preform like I want in the conditions I'm using them.
NPL comes close, and has been what I've been using in stead of Reala in 4x5, but we all know what happened to that, and I've only got so much of it left anyways...

So did anyone confirm with Fuji if Reala 120 is gone? If not I could call tomorrow and find out.

I like this rumors, maybe it get created from the digital guys to bring you faster to the pixels;--))))
They come and go from time to time, don't tell us rumors tell us only facts please!

I called Fuji Canada and they told me Reala in both 120 and 220 is still available. It has NOT been discontinued.

I was worried more about the US market, not Canada, as I'd rather not have to import it from there.
Still, it's good to know that at the very least, it's still available there, and it's not like Canada is really that far away.

Well, Earl, if you look at any map you will clearly see that Canada is much "bigger" that the US so of course it get's all the "good film" that we down here can never get!

This place can be amazing. Fujifilm announces the release of the new Velvia 50 in one thread and another notes how they are introducing a new "Klasse" film camera model. And folks on both threads are upset!

There's a third thread talking about Kodak's new improvements to Gold and other pro versions and the posters think it's bad news! Guess they don't realize that the time to worry is when manufacturers STOP making improvements!
