Thanks for posting this, Huss!

Incredible deal. Rare black body and lens combo. I want this so bad, but it would be wrong for me to buy it. Someone who doesn't have an N75 or N80 needs to jump on this.

Same here. I've been collecting cameras I don't need instead of using the ones I have. (Because they're so cheap, etc. etc.) There's just no point in tieing up cameras that someone else could be using.

That lens is worth the $60 shipped. Ain't the sharpest lens on the nikon D line, but passable. Good little street shooting kit there.

The listing has ended. Huss should get 10% for advertising.

That's almost enough for a half roll of ORWO!

Yes. I did not buy it, because I do not need another.

I admire the self restraint here! It was an excellent deal, but I've bought too many excellent deals that then collect dust. So I said ENUFF! Point being, you can get great cameras for such little money. Just ignore the dopes asking big money.

Also.. there was an N80 w Nikkor 35-70 AF 2.8 that just sold for $43. And again - I cried out ENUFF! I already have two..

Since you folks brought it up, what about that 28mm lens. It is the one lens in the compact wide angle AF-D series I never picked up because it seems to me it is no better than the 'kit lens' 28-80 set at 28.

Any comments?

I wouldn't buy this lens. I'd get the optically far superior, slightly heavier and slightly more expensive 24mm f/2.8 AF-D instead. They look similar, but are completely different inside.--Ken Rockwell

KR did also say you will be able to make amazing pics with it etc. When he says to buy the 24mm instead for a little more $, he was talking about new prices.

Not the $50 including a black N75 deal! I already have the 24, and so would not bother w the 28 especially since I have the 28-80G lens.

Yes, I'd take the lens free on a camera! I know they (28/2.8AFD) are also very inexpensive today. But, as you say, why, if one has multiple 28-80g?

Yeh, that N80 was on my watchlist, but just out of curiosity to see what it would sell for. $43 was a good price for that.

It’s not just that, but the 28-80g is great.

From what I’ve seen, the 28 2.8d goes for about $70. So the N75 with that lens for $50? Nice.

It is NOT better than the kit lens in most respects.

Of that line, it's probably the worst. Which doesn't mean anything, as AF-Ds are all good to excellent, small, mostly inexpensive lenses.

The kit lens zoom is slower, of course, but the 28 is not tack sharp and has a little distortion and some vignetting especially wide open. And the kit is a surprisingly nice performer for what it is. I sold my old one and when I got the F6 I got a 28mm G lens, which I think is better but also larger and has no aperture ring.

But the 28mm D lens was also a $275ish lens new, and they're probably $85 or more in average condition on the used market. So you buy a lens and get a free camera.

Yeah, I kind of want another one. It's a great lens on a bang for the buck basis.

The last one I had is never coming back. If I ask for it I'm sure she'll say she lost it and just give me cash.

The funny thing is that one was great - super images. I just didn’t like the silver finish. So I basically replaced it w a black one. I also have the D model of that lens - the previous model - and that one is great too. I prefer the G though because it is more compact and looks nicer.

If I was honest w myself all I need is the N80, the 28-80g and the 50 1.4d or 50 1.8g.
So basically $150 worth of gear. Instead of all the stuff I have right now.

Good thing I’m not honest w myself!

I got another one after the one you sent me with the N75. A different friend is using it on an N65 (I think). She wanted a lightweight do all travel thing so I had her try it and... it's not coming back. I wouldn't ask, either. She has another trip coming up and she's run a bunch of film with it, so it found its home.

Right now there is a silver 28-80g for $19 shipped and a black one for about $30

I'd have to go black. I'd use it on the N80 as a lightweight street rig. Totally inconspicuous and my other zooms are much larger.

Or I could just use one of the gazillion really damned nice lenses I already have.

That’s the thing, I have the latest Nikon 24-120g vr lens. And it is awesome. And it is huge. So you really have to commit to take that out.
The 28-80g is tiny. And featherweight. And cheeeeeep.

There are some very good deals on Minolta Maxxum 5’s with lenses now if that’s your flavor. $10-$21.

I’d get a black 28-80mm lens for my N80 but just don’t care enough to do it. The silver 28-80 doesn’t look that bad on it and I’ll probably keep the black 50mm on it most of the time anyway.

If you have a silver, don't get a black.

In fact, part of me likes the hinkey mismatched colors. But, if the price difference is a roll of color film (not including developing) I'll get myself black.

Those minoltas are fine cameras! I've just got a box filled with Nikon glass. Don't want to end up with another brand, I already have to make too many decisions about which camera to shoot.

The cheap camera thread reminds me of a video from a mid-west camera store just before the total solar eclipse. They put a Canon 4.0 500mm on a tripod, pointed it at the sun, then attached the cheapest body they had. Locked the mirror up and watched it go from smoking to melting while mentioning that pointing your camera directly at the sun could cause damage.
