I've always enjoyed Herbert Keppler, and it's a good survey article. Typical magazine though. The Bessa at 1/7th the price of the Leica is the best value and the Zeiss and Leica tie. We've not going to offend an advertiser by picking an acutal winner, are we?

My favorite line of the article, "Clicking a Leica shutter occasionally is good for the soul."

I couldn't agree more.

Take care,
Tom

Thanks for posting. Because of publishing industry "lead times" the print version of this actually hit the mailbox last November.

Nice to see it's now on their website.

Herb is the last film man standing over at PopPhoto. Unfortunately, he's not a good life insurance prospect - more a museum piece. When he goes I don't think there will be any "filmsters" left at PP.

In fact, I refused to renew PP six-months ago because it's almost 100% digi and they still keep sending me mags! I think they're "cheating" the subscription audit rankings by keeping expired subs like mine "on the books"! Sooner or later their advertisers will figure this out.

Yes, farnky unexpected indeed for PoP to pay attention to something that isn't fancy enough today such as megapixels, flashy digi P&S...feels somewhat refreshing (albeit I ceased reading PoP few years back when they got feeded by digital solely and swamped by ads).
There are at least one mistake i the article though:
"50mm f/2 Summicron focusing to 0.7 meters, half stops, to f/22.) $1,600." should read f/16 (smallest aperture) not f/22, other two contenders indeed go down to f/22.

Funny, the #1 "con" they list is lack of autofocus.

Ah, Contax......
