In August for not quite enough days to do everything I want but take what I can get. Will be staying in Bandon, just south of Coos Bay. Given that there will probably be a mixture of weather - some sunny, some cloudy, some 'misty', what is the most flexible film and/or what would be the best for 'misty', bringing out some nice contrast

Currently I use C-41 process: Fuji 400 and 800 and Kodak 400B/W. I have a couple of rolls of Tri-X and a few rolls of Era 100 (Chinese). I don't develop my own so everything goes through the local cheap lab and if I am concerned, I send it to a pro lab at 3x the $$. Any suggestions, pointers etc are greatly appreciated.

Larry, you're going to get what you get from the lab as far as contrast is concerned, but I do think a orange or red 25 filter would serve you well out there. It's a nice seascape. Don't forget your tripod!

If you're going down the Oregon coast, there's a little jaunt off 101 just south of Tillamook, called Pacific City. It's worth a roll or two.

Thanks Rich - Pacific City is now part of the itinerary.

Hi Larry, It is an excelent location you have chosen as a base. There is a lot to see and photograph in that area. Can't recomend much in the color area but you may want something slower than 400 Iso to calm the water down a bit.
Looks like you are a 35mm shooter so i would expose those Era's as 64 or 80 if overcast. Most labs use Xtol and the Era looks nice in that dev.
For the misty days bring a blue filter (If you want mist) and for the contrast a red 25 or a yellow green for the less dramatic. A polariser will be a must for color and as Rich said don't forget your tripod.

Just remember; A warm day at the Oregon coast is a cold day at any other beach!
