There may be a paywall here, but I had never seen this work before:

Why New Jersey?
https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/...w-jersey-photographs-of-henri-cartier-bresson

Thanks for the link, it allowed me to read the article. As for why New Jersey? Why not! In the mid 1970s it was gritty, dirty and full of wonderful photographic opportunities. It was also interesting to see it was the time he was using the then new Leica CL. As an aside, in the late 1990's art critic Peter Schjeldhal published a series of interviews with numerous artist including Cindy Sherman and Carier-Bresson. The best quote I rember from the interview was when they were trying to decide where and when to meet for lunch. Schjeldahl's quote, trying my best to remember, was, "For a man known for the decisive moment, he was one of the most indecisive people I had met."

I see this in my wife's New Yorker magazine, I was reading the comics and stumbled across this article. Note in the selfie shown he's using a Leica CL. Yikes!

I thought HCB gave up photography for painting in 1961. I am sure I read it on the internet, so it must be true. What was he doing in New Jersey in 1975 with a Leica CL? That television station must have paid him a boatload of money.

I was disappointed in the print edition--they ran several spreads with the image being chopped up and disappearing into the gutter. The photos look better online. So much for printed images being better than online images! There are also more images online than in the printed magazine.

Thank you. I have recently bought some books of his or about him.

Henri Cartier-Bresson New Horizons not worth the paper it is printed on.

Blame budgets and estates/agents/the photographers themselves. A publisher has to pay to use photos in a book (unless the photos are public domain or the copyright owner is the author or publisher). I often have to read books of photo criticism with a tablet alongside to look up the photos the author is referencing.
