It's just a packaging (volume) change that your particular source might be unfamiliar with. HC110 is certainly easy to get around here.

I think it's coincidence, not a supply problem. I've bought it in North America and Europe recently, everybody had it. Maybe it's getting more popular....

I ordered 3 bottles from Freestyle last week. Sorry for hoarding, but it's around and they'll have it restocked soon. You might call their retail shop in LA and ask them to check stock. I've been able to get film that was zeroed out on the site that way in the past.

Glass Key in San Francisco has it, too, but I'd guess their shipping is quite high http://www.yelp.com/biz/glass-key-photo-san-francisco

It does seem oddly hard to find. I think the reason Freestyle runs out is obvious ...

It's OK to stock up. The stuff lasts for ever. I think it because it's a glycerol base that makes it so robust.

If I remember correctly, Adorama will ship stuff that B&H will not. I haven't checked Adorama for stock, however.

I have stuff that has been stored less than ideally (i'm ashamed to admit) for just about 10 years.
The side residue is dark brown from oxidization but the pourable portion looks darker than the normal yellow color and it still works fine.

After the bottle is opened, not so long lasting. I had some go bad in 6 months after I opened it.

I find that to be true too Bruce. Never used Rodinal, but considered it when I thought HC-110 was gone. HC-110 versatile like Rodinal. I use it with dilution B to to 1:100 in stand development for an hour or more.

Palo Alto Keeble and Shuchat has it. About ~$27 per 1L bottle. I just checked it two weeks ago so I know. Not sure if they will ship, though.

It's always good to know of suppliers. Does Glass Key have a website or are they only brick/mortar? I've not found them online.

That's a good price. I'm gonna have to stop by there on my way home from work next week.

One minor annoyance is that the 1 Liter bottles seem to have crossed the threshold where B&H will not ship them. they were happy to ship me multiples of the 476 ml bottles in the past.

FWIW, this hasn't been my experience. I have a bottle opened for about a year with no issues.

Here's what happened:

Plus-X- 35mm.
Fresh film.
Processed as I normally do.
HC-110 concentrate had been open about 6 months and was a dark brown color.
I mixed the developer from concentrate.
The image on the film was extremely faint, including the edge markings.

I assumed that the developer had gone bad, and I threw it out.

HC-110 is unusual in that unlike most developers, it is not oxygen that causes it to deteriorate. Instead, it will start to deteriorate if water is introduced to it. So my guess is that Dave's HC-110 was exposed to either a lot of humidity, or some water was inadvertently added to the bottle.

My year old bottle remains a "nice" orange color. Perhaps, as Matt suggested, yours was exposed to moisture.

D76 is my preferred developer so my HC110 can sit for quite awhile after opening it. I just finished a bottle that had been open for well over a year and it was still a pretty orange color.

Being naturally cautious, I purchased some 2 and 4 ounce "Nalgene" bottles from a camping store and normally divide my HC110 into smaller containers with all but a 2 oz. working bottle full to the top for minimal air, etc. I have added two 8 ounce bottles for the transition to 1 liter, but haven't opened it yet. I do mostly 1+63 one-shot and the unused bottles have stayed like new for at least two or three years. I have occasionally seen a bit of brown discoloration on the cap threads of the working bottle, but no effects on the contents.

I've used bottles opened for 2-3 years or more and so deep dark orange to be almost more brown than orange. No issues.

That blows! Sorry to hear that. I guess even with HC110 it makes sense to test developer that looks suspect.
