Hello Gang,

i've used HC110 to develop my last two films and have been really pleased with the results, but on the HC110 resource page it suggested that it can also be used as a paper developer.

Does anyone have any experience of this and what were their impressions please?

I'd also be interested to know suggestions for dilutions and times if possible. I'm still new to this, I also happen to use the wimpy 500ml (1+9 for dilution B) bottle and Ilford Multigrade paper.

Any help or suggestions appreciated

I've done this out of curiosity and my impression was no big deal. It works, but is no better than anything else, IMHO. Some folks will say that you should use film dev for film and paper dev for paper. Perhaps there is truth behind that, I don't know, but there are also others who clain that using HC-110 as a paper dev is a rather expensive way to go; Dektol, etc., is much cheaper.

As for dilutions, I followed the guidlines at Covington. http://www.covingtoninnovations.com/hc110/index.html

I developed prints in HC-110 (Dilution A, IIRC) back in about 1975. With Velox paper, it produced an extremely blue print tone, which would convert to a very warm, almost sepia tone if exposed to white light while in the Kodak Indicator Stop Bath (even after being in the stop for a considerable time). No idea what if any "odd" effects it might have with more modern papers; haven't tried it, since I've got about four gallons of Dektol stock left and some Clayton paper chemistry I inherited lined up behind that...
