"Haze" on outer surfaces of glass elements

Hi,

I just picked up a symmar-s 210mm MC from the auction website. When it arrived yesterday, I cleaned the glass and it looked really nice. But a thin layer of "haze" would slowly form on the outer surfaces of the glass (front & rear elements). The haze would be quite visible 5 minutes after cleaning it. It would clean off easily but again it would appear later. How could I get rid of this "haze" problem? Does it have any effect on performance? I think I've read before somewhere that some lenses have "outgassing" problem. Is this it? Thanks!

If you blow it with hair dryer, does it disappear? Some cleaning solutions and certain glass tend to leave haze easily (tiffen filters are notorious for hazing after cleaning). I like ROR, but ymmv.

I tried the hairdryer as you suggested. But no, it didn't go away. I made a few pictures with it and they came out just fine. So I'm ok with the lens for now. Thanks anyway.

Well - it's GOT to be something atmospheric. I fail to see any alternative. Send it for a CLA or something if it continues maybe...
heck - I'll buy it off you if you think it's defective and just want to unload it - oh wait - I don't need at 210.

What did you clean it with? Your cloth can be greasy, the grease can cover the lens surface after the solvent evaporates.

I saw an auction earlier today for a Koni-Omega lens in which the seller states that the coating on the front element is oxidized, but that it shouldn't affect picture quality. I think it's the first time that I've seen someone refer to an oxidized lens coating. I'm wondering what he is describing (maybe a light haze?) and just how benign it really is.

I still can't make out what it is but I'm okay since the pictures came out fine. I'll be getting myself a micro cleaning cloth to see if it helps. Thanks.
