Have you used Rollei R3 film yet?

I've read the previous month's posts re Rollei R3 film and have printed the Acrobat pages given therein for future reference. Meanwhile, has anybody run a roll of this through their camera(s) yet? If so, would you kindly give us the name of the developer and the development procedure you used as well as your concrete impressions on its quality, especially regarding tonality? Thanks, all, in advance.

I've shot heaps of R³ but I haven't had a chance to develop any yet - been too busy. I've run tests at meter settings from 100 to 1600 and will develop it based on my experience with Cube 400, and on the Maco guidelines for the two 'Rollei' developers (probably very similar, if not identical, to Cube and Supergrain developers). I'll post my impressions as soon as I can.

Thanks immensely, Helen! If I lived near you, I would gladly volunteer to process your undeveloped rolls. Inasmuch as you are in England and I am in California, that is not possible. I love developing film---the joy of first seeing what I got after drying negatives never fails to excite me! And I am so anxious to see what R3 is like at different ISOs.

England is next week, after Toronto. This week it's Arizona and New York. That's why the film remains undeveloped...

I also suspect that it will be very much like Cube, but not blue, and not so curly (I hope).

I have developed two rolls, shot at EI 200 and 400. Developed in D76.
Horrible stuff, big grain and generally awful result....
I guess I`ll need the right developer for this film to get usefult negs....
I`ll be watching Helens experience with it before I expose the two rolls I got left...

No, I don't think its worth the cost. but I think all film will cost as this one does very soon. MACO is selling film as it is supposed to cost in our current economy, not because its worth more.

Seems like grain size is related to price, more pricey - more grainy.

I used Promicrol as a developer and exposed at 1600 and it was very grainy, for comparision I used Agfa APX 200 S, which has a similar sensitivity to red light and results were about the same. (Doing a 3 stop push on a 200 speed film does not sound very clever, does it?)
I will try again with Amoloco 74 which is said to be close to High Speed developer, which is a renamed older version. If I do not like it, I only wasted 4 Euro per roll intro price. The little bar code on the film can on my films is the same as the code on my locally purchased Tura 400, which has the same Emulsion-Nr. as Agfa APX 400 (#451, first run of the new emulsion) (At the dealer there are different # running around 433, 441, 451 and once out of the box one can not see the difference anymore, as the dealer still uses the same can stickers!)
