Have YOU Been Photographed?

I don’t go out of my way to be photographed but I have no objection to it.

Over the years, between friends and family - particularly my wife - there are plenty of photos of me in the family shoebox and plenty more in friends’ archives.
 
Up until my 20's, I was included in family photographs. However, as people aged, passed away, or moved apart, the majority of family photos (actual prints) eventually resided with me, my paternal aunt, and one of her sons. As time moved on and my cousin divorced, a large collection of family photos from Hungary and from my family's early days in the U.S. were lost (I assume this - I assume his ex-wife tossed the boxes of photos in the trash; we have no contact with her and she would have no reason to keep them). Even so, there is still a collection of photos shared between my aunt and myself. These are photos dating prior to 1900 up until the 1980's; from Hungary and the U.S. Photos made after that are my own, so they don't include me, or they are made by my extended family - which only includes them, their kids, and grandkids.

Now the (extended) family just makes photos for Facebook (which I don't use) and their only camera is probably built into their phone. Since all of the "real" photos will likely become my property (my family has no interest whatsoever in anything longer than 20 years ago), I really have nobody to pass the photos to. I suspect that I'll have to scan them all (thousands!) and place them online somewhere - Ancestry DNA is one repository I can use, since I have a tree there.

I used to have photographs of myself from friends in my various car clubs, shooting organizations, and other hobbies, but around the early 1990's I stopped wanting to see myself in photos.
 
I was working about 20 hours per day leading up to the launch of John Glenn into orbit. They kept delaying due to problems. At about the same time every day, we went through the press site to check cameras and positioning. I would sit down for a few minutes to rest on the corner of the grandstands. The TV cameras were behind me and caught me every day. Two of these were aired.

My commanding officer was in Bethesda Hospital recovering from a broken leg in an accident while on a trip. He called me from DC to tell me to get off my butt and work!

Thus I had my 15 minutes of fame. Funniest parts removed. Sorry.

I'll sacrifice my pride first - here's a self portrait shot on a Heliar I used to own. The inestimable and greatly missed eddie gunks shot it for me at his house at a wet plate meet up he hosted in 2009.

I have been photographer many times. I don't mind at all. In fact I am in the habit of handing a camera to my subject and letting them photgraph me. Here is one such example....

Yes, thousands, possibly tens of thousands times every time I walk in the High street I am sure I am photographed by the security cameras on buildings and again when I am driving on the roads. No great shakes unless I am doing something wrong
 
Please explain what you are talking about as I see no difference between my question and another, that has been around for ages, about "what the weather is like where you live", etc. Until I know more about this, I shall remain silent, which is probably a good idea anyhow........Regards!
 
Originally, this thread was started in the "Feedback and Discussion" sub-forum, which really should be called the "Photrio Operation Feedback and Discussion" sub-forum, in order for the label to match the intention.
Correct me if I am wrong, but I think the "Weather" thread is in a third sub-forum - the Lounge.
Perchance have you not noticed that Photrio is divided up into various sub-fora, according to subject? I think for some - particularly those who use a smart phone to access Photrio - that the forum structure isn't as visible as for others.
 
So where do I find where the forum structure is visible, using my Apple PC computer. The only thing I use my "smart phone" for is a telephone and a damn poor one at that. Meanwhile I stand corrected, I think, maybe........Regards!

Which will give you a sense of what "branch" of the tree this has been moved to.
If you click on that "Forums" link, or the one that is in the bar above it, you will see the Forums and Sub-forums in all their glory. Scroll down and you will see a lot.

For some reason I don't really like having my photo taken by others, but I'm starting to take some self portraits so that I can keep shooting on rainy winter days here in Northern California.
 
A dear friend and very fine photographer has made several un-posed portraits (and I've done same for him).

I paid a local professional very well and hate the results. Posed.

There's a lot to be learned as a subject.
 
I took a Pacemaker Speed Graphic to an Air Force airshow and more photographs were taken of me using it than I took.

One that has not been erased (my sister took the photo) -- my behind (what there is of it) sticking out in Zion National Park. I am in my volunteer uniform during my Artist-in-residence there in April 2018. And I included the 5x7 platinum/palladium print I recently made from the negative from that set-up.

This one was taken by my sister in law, who is extremely averse to having her picture taken. But she gladly took one of me.

It was my first test roll of Vision3 film. Roasted in C41 dev and the remjet squeegeed of with wet fingers at the end. Not a promising start but an interesting look. Also my inversion technique using probably curves was in its infancy.

But, a Girl who has no Name loved the effect and wished she could have it as a filter on her phone...
 
Thanks, PE. I'll be passing through Rochester this May (one of my boys is graduating from Cornel) -- I'll have to check on the hours etc for the George Eastman House, etc. I'd like to see some older carbon prints.
