Sad, if they closed their doors, but not really unexpected, given
- the general tendency for photographers to get AA battery packs and use rechargeable AA batteries, rather than to use Quantum battery packs to recycle their flash units in 1 sec.
- There are the cheapo wireless flash triggers (from Asia) which blew away the remote flash trigger market from Pocket Wizard and Quantum,
- on top of the fact that so many digital shooters do not bother to use flash at all, because low noise high ISO capabilities of the body, so demand for Quantum flash units is down, too.
- and cheap wireless camera triggers (from Asia) have blown the market away from Pocket Wizard for remote camera triggering
A few months ago I was trying to get a power cable from Quantum to use with a newer model Metz flash, and the total lack of enthusiasm and support from the Quantum rep I communicated with was handwriting on the wall to me. In spite of the lack of information, I was able to find the right cable with zero help from Quantum.
Photographers are getting the results of the cheap-at-any-condition buying pattern from suppliers who provide zero service or support, driving companies like Quantum and Dynalite out of business. The photography store you could drive to is another victim.
