What's the best way to fit an R72 filter on Hasselblad's Bay 60 lenses? The Lee adapter with a 100 series holder and filter seems rather expensive.

I bought a 62mm to 67mm step-up ring for my 35mm cameras and a B60 to 67mm step-up ring for my Hasselblads so that I could have R29 and 720 [R72] filters to take infrared photographs. I could not get those filters in B60. These are the only step up adapters I have.

I see that Tiffen makes this adapter and not expensive. I would imagine that it works OK. But what kind of lens hood would I use with this set-up?

None of mine work with the step up adapters.

Do you shoot IR without a hood?

If I use the R29 or 720 filters, otherwise I almost always use lens hoods. But then when I am shooting infrared film, the sun is behind me for the best wood effect.

The B60 to 67mm filter adapter uses the internal bayonet on the lens.

The hood uses the external bayonet, so you should be able to use your normal lens hood with a filter in place.

This is true, however, the cheaper copies of the external bayonet hood interfere with the internal bayonet Hasselblad filters. The Genuine Hasselblad external bayonet hood sometimes interferes with the 67mm adapters and filters, depending on how thick the metal ring is. You have to test the non-Hasselblad accessories to see if they clear.

That is my experience too. But again when I am using the R29 and 720 [R72] filters the sun is at my back for the best infrared exposures and the lens hood in not needed.

After further research I found a post that claims a 67mm filter with B60 adapter will not work properly on lenses shorter than 80mm. and that 72mm or 77mm adapters and filters should be used. As I mainly plan to use my 60mm lens for IR, I'm wondering if this is true.

That is useful information. For myself I tend to take IR photographs with the 80mm lens for the majority of the time. I would probably use the 100mm lens or longer a small percentage of time. I would have to check to see if the filter and adapter ring vignettes with the 50mm lens and the SWC, but I do not have any IR photographs with which if used either of those. At this point I am not going to rush out and get 72mm or 77mm adapters and filters. I wonder what I would have to use for the 30mm Fisheye ... that is probably not possible.

I use 67mm filters on Tiffen and Hasselblad Bay 60 to 67mm adapters all the time as wide as 50mm and have no issues with image cutoff unless I am using my Flexbody. As for shades, I think some work with 67mm filters but for the most part, I use the Proshade since I can vary the length custom to the cutoff needed and that easily works with the step up rings.
