Hasselblad V Series 50mm Bay 70 Front cap needed

Hi all,

I scored a deal on a VERY nice Hassy 50mm CFi lens off eBay. I took a chance and it came in excellent.

However, it came without front or rear lens caps. I believe (please correct me if I'm wrong) the rear cap is pretty much standard and any one would fit.

But from what I can tell, the front element is a Bay 70 sized one (am I saying this correctly?)...whereas most other Hasselblad lenses are Bay 60.

I cannot seem to find anywhere a front lens cap for this really nice lens. I've searched eBay and KEH and nothing so far.

I did think I read some blip somewhere, but lost the link, something about there being a Bay 70 to xyz sized adapter that a lot of people used to use not only to cap the lens, but to enable use of more commonly found filter sizes, etc?

Any suggestions, thoughts, etc?

Please pardon what likely is a stupid question....but is there something I could screw into that filter that would act as a front cap?
I wanna make sure it is protected with in my camera bag, either attached to camera or not....

the adapter is 77mm filters are easier to come by.

Are you sure you need a B70? The lenses on this link suggest the B60.

In any case a B60/70 adapter can had with a 77mm adapter.

The rear lens cap is standard. I use Amazon, B&H, Adorama and KEH for buying Hasselblad lens caps.

This pinch style of 77mm lens cap, with large spring loaded grip works well on B70 lenses, both directly on the lens or on the B70 filter. Cheap, and a good backup from the Hasselblad bayonet lens cap.

Some of the more expensive ones fit tight because the pinch on them does not have enough/much travel.

The Pentax 77mm lens cap fits perfectly as well and there are plenty of those.

A Pringles chip can lid will work.
I just checked a can I bought for a macro flash conversion, and it looks to have the inside diameter needed to be used as a lid.

I've often used such lids to protect lenses when I've run short of caps, they work well enough that some just continued on as lens caps for years, even with a 'proper' cap on the shelf.

Go ahead and give it a try, as it always helps to have spare lens caps, especially in light of how much the made to purpose caps cost, in case you lose one (17 Euros ?) in the field or the back of the car, and need a replacement pronto.

Oh, yeah, do put some Ducktape on the inside lid, so there is NO Chance that some Puck, doesn't find a way to burn a hole in your camera's curtain, by way of magics.

PS: I just put one of these lids onto threaded ring of a Tiffen Bay 60 to 77mm step-up ring.

When pressed down over the threads, its a snap fit but would benefit from a little gaffers tape on opposite insides of the rim for a stronger grip.

Also, go ahead and hot glue a button and string to the lid/cap and tie off the loose end to a rubber band to the lens, so you do no lose this lid as well.
