Hasselblad titanium shutter replacement

Well, it happened--the wrinkle has caused a catastrophic failure in the 2000 FC

In past years there was a guy called "the doctor" who developed a replacement shutter curtain for these cameras--does anybody know if this guy still sells them and if so how to contact him?

Or maybe there's some other brilliant person that's found a way to repair these things after the shutter goes bang?

Recent experience only please--the internet is filled with dead ends from the past and names of people that used to do this a long time ago.

Hopefully somebody is out that than can help me restore or maybe needs a parts camera too if they do that kind of work.

The replacement part is available on eBay (item 291060484436), I've rarely seen them, but I'd check with New Jersey or Sewden first for the part.

Unfortunately I don't have a name for you to install it, our local Hasselblad tech does not work on the 200 series. If it was my own, I would do it myself.

That is the correct part for the 2000 camera (103112). The photograph could be better but it looks like it's in good condition. It been 2 or 3 years since I repaired one of them.

oh well--looks like it's now a parts camera--a new (oem) shutter curtain is more expensive than the camera.

a replacement is what is needed--mylar--thin cloth--something--that titanium is pretty thin though--hmmmmm...a project that needs a genius solution--it's about time--these are GOOD cameras except when the inevitable accident happens.

With a Canon rangefinder, you reuse mine are crinkly.
My Nikon F2 has fabric paint repairs.

On a similar note, is anyone actually still servicing 2000 series Hasselblad bodies? I have a 2003FCW that needs help. Hasselblad USA will not touch it.

Fabric blinds are perfectly ok, after all the 200 series had fabric blinds. The titanium blinds are very tough and dimples and wrinkles are not a problem but a tear is 'game over' for the blind set.
When the supply of new parts ends it is the time for any manufacturer to decide if they can continue to service the product and offer a genuine warranty so from this point of view it is easy to understand why servicing is no longer offered by Hasselblad USA.
This is where independent repairers can help by servicing with a limited warranty or even using secondhand parts, there has to be an atmosphere of trust between the owner and engineer to keep old but loved cameras like these working.
I said in my earlier post that it has been some time since anyone asked me to repair one of these so the demand is very small but the USA is a much bigger country and maybe there is an independent engineer over there that still can. Good luck, if you find one let us all know and if you come to the UK call me.

yes, but is there room for a fabric curtain? will it fit rolled up or is there a different designed roller for the 200 series?

blah--only one way to find out...take it apart and see what will fit.

Not quite sure what you mean in your reply and maybe that was because I did not explain myself as well I could have done.

A Yes there is because the 200 series had fabric blinds and the mechanism is almost the same and as you stated in the first post you had heard of somebody who had found a replacement.

Q What do you propose then to determine a suitable replacement curtain?
A In order of preference, new or good used titanium blinds from another 2000, blinds from a 200 series, fabric blinds cut to size and fitted to the cords, caps and drums of the titanium shutter.

"almost the same"...yes, we know that...but, genetically, a human and a bananna are "almost the same".

titanium is OUT--forget it--it's cheaper to buy a functioning camera--besides...why replace a bad part with another one that will have the same problems--don't answer that--it's rhetorical.

I"m thinking mylar type fabric...maybe actual fixed out film--or BLACK--yes--exposed and developed film...YES!!!! that's it...so simple...see GENIUS idea...a bit of the olde 120 film fogged and developed to max dmax...maybe coated to be sure it's light tight.

now to figure out how to get this thing apart....

take lots of photos
use double sided pressure sensitive tape bottom of 16x20 tray put parts down in order of removal
cunning Se may have used left hand threads
you will still need tape as well as blind material
putting it back together and getting it to work again is the difficult bit...
I accept bits in zip lock bags...

EXCELLENT idea--double sided tape.

Trays are a must (lessons learned) but the tape sounds like a very good improvement--the sound of a teeny tiny part bouncing on the floor is about the worst thing to hear.

tape materials and blind material are critical get those first...

both need to be good quality

You need exact copies of dimensions and metal work for leading and trailing edges.

And you need to be good at sewing
