Hasselblad plastic type for repair choice

Hi there;

I have a Hasselblad hard plastic quick focus ring & lever, that is parted tight on the the threaded hole for the tighten/untighten screw that needs to be rejoined.

I can keep the small threads and screw from being glued up with a touch of lube but I'm wanting to know which type plastic this is made of and preferred adhesives.

I have a preference for Loctite glues, but I need to know what the plastic type is to do the best job.

Yes, but I prefer to repair for myself what I can, rather than pay anyone else to sell me 'new' as long as I'm capable of doing a decent job on this simple tool.

I should also mention that, at $90US, as mentioned as the cost of a replacement by other photographers, I find that to be excessive and not practical to my budget, when available.

I found replacements on the internet, Amazon and eBay.

My suggestion would be JB Weld, which is epoxy-based...supposedly, it can be drilled & tapped once completely hardened. Supposedly.
My experience with SuperGlue-type repairs has been fraught with an abysmal failure rate.

Yes, super glued, which can be had with special properties, but on hard plastics, I have a similar opinion; a last resort.

I have a number of glued available here at home, including some J B Weld steel, and some other stuff.

One possibility might be the same chemical pcv joining solution, however not knowing the Ring's material, makes me hesitate till I know more.

I'd bet it's made from a nylon. If it is a crack at a hole in band and this hole is under pressure in use, I'd plan on a mechanical repair or a chemical weld, not adhesive. Maybe a heat weld, or embedding metal splints with heat. Or scab over with a plate held by screws or tabs.

I have one somewhere but never found a need for it. Haven’t a clue where I squired it Away. In cleaning up a corner of basement I found my long forgotten Hasselblad PolaroId back…pristine condition but totally useless.
I do admire your persistence in trying to repair. Keep us informed.

Thank you both for your tips, encouragement.

I've pretty much decided to try using de-oiled steel wool and a flat plate soldering iron attachment to melt in, the steel threads, and use some thick, long Harbor Freight zip ties (their largest) cut into pieces and fed into a mini (manual feed) glue gun, about a three dollar tool at a Dollar Tree or similar store.

After applying enough of the zip tie material to level it up on each side, with a barely greased OEM screw adjuster in place, for non-stick threads repair.

I could use tiny cut brass 'butterflys', modeled after wood repair patches, but I want to give the steel wool a try out first.

I'll take some pics of the finished project, working repair or not, and share them in this thread.
