I have an old Planar 80 lens of the C variety that has pristine glass and was CLA'd recently. The only annoying thing is the d*rn painted numbers that seem too easy to mar and scratch - would it be possible to repaint them or make some kind of label or new engraving?

I am assuming you are meaning the engraved F stop and speed lettering.

If so, go to home depot and get a white wax pen used to touch up cabinets when they scratch. You can probably get other colors at an art store.

Hope that helps....YMMV.

I was a bit lazy and didn't check well enough...

I found the answer I was looking for yesterday, but I wasn't able to delete this post. Basically, in involves making a set of numbers with decals or else replacing the whole shutter speed band, as the numbers aren't engraved, only painted on.
