Why is it that the newer models of the 500 series are so easy to focus with almost 3D edges, while the older ones look like everything is in focus and beg for use of the magnifier. Surely the screen is responsible and can be inserted into the 500C/M?

Yes, the Acute-Matte screens are much nicer to work with. They make a very good update to any C/M camera. Just be aware that older metered prism finders are calibrated for the older type of screen, so you have to compensate for the new screen if you are using e.g. a PM prism finder.

Krzys, the newer screens are easily changed into the older body with some exceptions. The older 500 C models will require the screen be fitted and calibrated to make sure it focuses at the same plane as the lens. The 500 CM models on up are good to go with ANY of the alternate Hasselblad screens. I find the newer Acute matte screens superb compared to the older screens, and have the grid squared, microprism, and split circle versions on both my 500 c/m and 201F bodies and they make focusing a breeze even in lower light.
