Hasselblad filter adapter

hi all,

I just realised that my newly-bought used Planar 80mm 2.8 does not have an industry-standard filter thread, but some sort of bayonet that seems proprietary to Hasselblad (yes - I am new to MF. Bear with me as I ramp up).

Is an adapter available that will allow me to use my standard filters on a Hasselblad?

Yes, there are adapters called B50->52mm or B60->62mm. Which one to get depends on your lens. Is it a C type (B50) or a CF type(B60)?

Just so you know, If you're looking for standard coloured filters, photografica has them quite cheap (I remember that I bought a hasselblad yellow filter from them for 150 kr.)
If this is indeed the case you will safe time, as the bayonet mount is a lot quicker in use.

If you're patient you can find a stack of old but good bayonet filters being sold for a lump sum. There are plenty of B50 filters around and they sell for a song. E.g. a nice stack of 4-5black/white filters for say 200 dkr or so. Check the auction sites, for sale sites etc. and don't pay too much.
And as Mads says, the bay mount is much quicker to use. (The way Hasselblad intended it to be.) Last, it's Zeiss glass too. Uncoated, but still...

I have B60 to 67mm thread adapters. One made by Tiffen, the other by Hasselblad. The Hasselblad adapter fits smoothly, the Tiffen is much less refined but works. I'll let you guess which is cheaper. The only problem I've encountered is that with my 50mm, I get a tiny bit of vignetting in the corners when shooting at close distances. I use B+W filters, and they have a pretty thick retaining ring, which must intrude in the edges of the frame in some circumstances. It is very minor. No problem with the 80mm or 120mm lenses. My guess is that if you find a deal on a stack of used Hasselblad filters, this will not be an issue.

thanks Mads - but I think I will go for an adapter as suggested by other respondents, the idea being to avoid having to duplicate my filter collection (most are B+W filters that I am quite happy with). To avoid any errors: Am I right I should go for a B60 adapter (I assume the number refers to the diameter of the lens, which is 60mm in my case)?

And yes thanks, I am enjoying the camera very much indeed, mildly speaking a new approach to photography! Being a bit time-constrained, I've so far managed to develop and print one roll only, but results were definitely impressive.

If your lens is a 80mm CF, the filter size is B60. If you have an older variety 80mm or 80mm T*, the filter size is B50.

If you're using a B60, I recommend using 67mm filters with the adapter. These should help reduce the chance of vignetting if you end up using the filters with a wide-angle lens with a B60 mount.

58mm filters work well with the older B50 lenses.

I have an 80mm CF, and what I do is each time I buy a 67mm filter, I also get a B60 adapter that I keep attached to that filter at all times. This preserves the benefit of buying much cheaper 67mm filter, yet still having the fast mounting action of the Hasselblad bayonette mount.

I've had good luck with generic "made in Japan" adapters from B&H photo. I tried some even cheaper made in China adapters through eBay, and ended up returning those because of poor quality.

Søren, in that case you need to find a B50 adaptor.
