Hasselblad CF lenses

Does anyone know if the coating is better on the black CF lenses than the silver CF lenses.

I know that a lot of the black CF lenses are T*, but some are not T* and I was wondering if there was any coating improvements on these over the silver ones that look the same, other than colour.

CF lenses are the newer ones. They are Bay 60 lenses. They are all T* lenses. The silver lenses are C lenses (bay 50). Some of those are not T* coatings (I think older ones). If you shade the front well, you shouldn't worrry. What I would worry about, is being able to get the older copal shutters fixed.

C optics

Carl Zeiss lenses with Synchro-Compur shutters, these lenses are satin chrome, with black versions becoming available in the 70`s. These lenses were manufactured between 1957 and the late 1970s, being gradually replaced with C T* versions.
Non coated series.

C T*

Same as C`s, Zeiss T* coating implemented, these optics were manufactured from late 1974 to 1982.

CF

C`s redesign, Prontor shutters, self-timer not present, these lenses do not have the moving depth-of-field indicators, among other diferences.
All CF lenses are T* multicoated lenses with some few exceptions.

Ps- CF´s are all black, C`s all silver and C T*`s use both finishes.

OH yah, compur shutters not copal shutters. I haven't held one in a long time.

One thing I was wondering was if the coating was improved on the black C lenses over the silver C lenses.

Sometimes I like to shoot into the sun and I do find my current silver C lens flares a lot and the negs are even harder to print!

Of course the shutters have been changed but the T* remains the same. Zeiss states on their website..Camera & Lens News... that there has also been internal changes made in lens construction that leads to improved contrast.

I am not currently a Hasselblad owner. I do know that th C shutters would hang up in very cold weather causing me in 1970 money $ 50 to repair at an independent local service. I have no experience in using CF lenses in any weather, I am hopeful that the Copal shutters have eliminated this problem.

For a 6x6cm camera system a 500 series Hasselblad is mighty hard to beat if your preder compactness over electronic integration such as found in Rolleis.

A very good point here by Claire, I favoured the CF series over the C, because of reliability under very low temperatures, and obviously mechanics and coating issues.
IMO and if you`re thinking to shoot alot against the sun or strong light, take in consideration the coating improvements and internal redesign started in CF series and further developed on more recent series of Zeiss optics.

I don't know if Copal shutters "hang" or not. The PRONTORS in the newer Hassleblad lenses seem OK.
