I was well warned to be mindful of the little ball bearing in Hasselblad C lenses that gets the aperture and shutter rings to slide across each other in clicks rather than continuously.

Buuuuuut of course, after a semi-successful late night go at getting the slow shutter mechanism in my new-to-me 150mm to come unstuck, I managed to let it pop out and fly across the room like a bb gun shot, disappearing, I assume forever :-(

I can get a replacement on Ebay methinks, but can't find info on the exact size needed. If all else fails I'll try to measure the little slot it fits in, then bracket-purchase a few.

If anyone has had this problem and figured out the size, it would be much appreciated. Thankfully the lens does work well enough without it, though it's too easy to shoot at the wrong ap/shutter combo.

If you got a strong magnet you can try searching carpets, slits etc. for such a ball. Been there done that...

Thanks very much! Bigly appreciate the replies.

I was actually pulling the kitchen apart until almost 2 a.m. It's amazing how large a space becomes when you start going over each inch with a torch. A magnet then would have been a good idea. Next morning others were using the space so I abandoned the search. I figure it bounced high in a different direction and has probably since been swept or vacuumed up- the room is chief residence of a couple of dogs, and a cat.

I shall seek out a 2mm bearing  Will post here to confirm if it works- my Google searching didn't have any direct hit and I'm sure someone else will eventually do the same thing.

Bicycle shops often have a nice selection of ball bearings on hand. Including very small as some shifters and such use them.

Well if they were 1.5 mm , sometime in the near future I could mail you a bunch . I've got 250 coming to replace the
one I lost while servicing my Kowa 85 mm lens ( you got it , I work over a shag rug from the 70's  ). Peter

ooh, there's a good excuse to visit a bike shop

a lot of these scenarios I think end with "ah, so this indeed wasn't the best place to pick to disassemble this many-parted device". Not sure I'd like living somewhere that would be ideal for finding tiny lost steel balls. The magnet trick mentioned above might help explore the rug? Maybe it'll get crunchy when there's a couple of hundred bearings in it

I just checked Amazon, they have a Hilitchi assortment, chromed, which I'll buy, as this is something I need in my repair kit, and shoot you several by regular post, Saturday or Monday (they're suppose to be here Friday).

Send me your postal info in a PM.

Cheers,
Eli

I think almost all shutters use about the same diameter bearing. Buy a screwed up lens and get the bearing out of that.

Possibly lost marbles; possibly didn't have them to lose; most definitely have been losing funds :-o

It looks like the C lenses at least have very similar internals- I was following guides given for the 80mm on the slow shutter; seemed almost identical for the 150mm. I also bought a couple of extension tubes (8 and 16) so will hopefully be able to do a bit more portrait work; have used the 80mm on its own for maybe 5 years.
