Hasselblad "Bay 60".... someone please explain!

I took my Hasselblad out today for the initial test run. I'm confused what Bay 60 means. I initially thought it was 60mm. I have B&W 67mm filters and they seem to be the same diameter as my 80/2.8 CF lens. But the lens has no threads on the front. How am I to attach a filter without threads? And what is the actually diameter of "Bay 60?" Do I need to get an adapter or something to use my filters?

Why doesn't Hasselblad just do like all the other camera manufacturers and keep it simple?

Then it would not be a Hasselblad, nor have the Hassy cachet.

You can buy nothing but Bay 60 bayonet filters and accesories--or do what I did: buy a Hassy Bayonet to standard thread adapter. Mine came from a place in China and was quite reasonable and nicely made.

Yes, you can get a Bay 60 adapter, so you can then use any other make of screw-in filter. I got a Bay 60 to 58mm adapter, can't remember where from or how much now.

That works. Check Heavystar's listings for buy it now prices. No hassle with bidding, etc. As I recall, prices are in the $7 to $15 range depending on where you shop.

Or buy Bay 60 filters. They are bayonette mounted and much easier to handle then threaded filters.

I didn't lnow there were plastic ones. I've had good luck buying metal hoods from him before for 35mm lenses. KEH lists them also. A phone call to them will answer all your questions.

It is.
It is the (approximate) diameter of the filter glass. Not the rim/mount.

Thanks Wayne. I've bought a step up ring off of ebay once for cheap and it was very cheaply made. The threads wore out very quickly.

A friend was at our favorite new/used camera store in Houston yesterday. He called to ask if I needed anything. I rememered needing the Bayonet 60-67mm filter adapter. Bingo! They had a new old stock Hasselblad adapter in the paper box and the plastic filter case (looks a lot like a B+W box made in W. Germany which dates it kinda). Original price: $49 maked down to $29. It's mine. It has a 67mm heliopan filter on it now. I'll know tonight if it also fits the CFE 80mm Planar. There's no reason it shouldn't. Now I can get a hood on the lens and hopefully stop some pesky flare.

The last one I saw at KEH with shipping was very close to the same price.
