Hasselblad auxiliary shutter not returning

I have a 500CM which decided to jam while I released the shutter. No problem there; replaced the dark slide, removed the magazine, reached through the open auxiliary shutters, and cocked the shutter with my little screw driver.

Once wound, I tripped the shutter once again with the magazine still off and everything seemed fine, until I released the shutter. Missing was the familiar sound of the auxiliary shutters snapping closed.

They had returned only partially. Upon winding the camera, they return to their fully closed position before the mirror returns or the lens shutter opens. They are no longer "Kicked closed" with the release of the shutter button. but must be "wound" closed.

Is there a common quick fix that I may attempt? I would sooner pick up a 501CM from KEH than cough-up a few hundred to get this one fixed, CLA'ed, and re-foamed.

Think think you're going shopping.

Seems like I've read on David Odess' website that this is not a good thing to have happen.

I went the other way. I had a body needing CLA and sent it in and now have confidence it will be go to go for some time, rather than buy a used body not knowing its history.

Different strokes.

It will need attention. And that will cost money. Alas!
Ask for a quote from people like David Odess. And if not too much, think about Mike's point, and have it put right.

David Odess

I've been trying to contact David Odess regarding a repair.

Just called the number on his website, and it's disconnected. Also sent him email earlier in the week (Sunday, and today's Friday), and no reply. Anyone know if his contact info has been updated? I hope everything is OK...

Call Samys Camera 323-938-2420 x1009 during the week and ask to speak to Mike in repairs. He is very good and honest.

David Odess' website has been updated to indicate a problem with his business number, asking customers to call his home number.

I traded emails with him yesterday.
