I recently got my hands on a set of auto bellows and the lens shade to go with it for my 501cm. However, the support rod that slides into the bellows for the lens shade itself is missing. Does anyone know of a good replacement for it?

Do you mean, this?
it was / probably still is / should be available as a spare part. Note there are 2 versions, a short and a long one. This is the long one.
Hope this helps

PS. Did you get the 135mm lens as well? terrific piece of glass...
I plan on getting that next! Really excited to get some macro done with my 501cm but I was be able to use the shade with my auto bellows and the rod is all I’m missing.

Is there any complicated reason for that slit in that rod? Or could not a slightly modified aluminium or brass rod be used instead?

I believe that is for the screw that tightens to stops it from moving. I don’t think there’s anything special about it which is why I was wondering if there’s any repayment someone has used before

Just stop by Home Depot or Lowes, etc, buy a duplicate size mild steel rod from hardware and run a power hand grinder down it in a straight line to grove it

If you do no know how to use a grinder or have access to a Machinist mill, ask your local high school or collage machine shop teacher to do it for a few bucks.

Of course, you could just pay a machine shop to do it for you and apply whatever finish you like, yourself.

Yes, brass and quality aluminum rods should work, but what ever length you settle on, make two, for for sale or as a spare.

IMO
