Woke up early this morning, something I haven't done in a long while, to get ready for the MSA. After winding on some Tri-X into my A12 film back I had discovered that there is no number #1 displayed in the counter window. I haven't always checked this when putting in new film but I see the numbers later on.

Is it possible to advance the film all the way to the end with the lens cap on, remove the film and put it through a second time to get it back to the beginning? By doing this will the film still remain tight on the spool? I have another A12 I can use. Thanks.

The film is only bound to the paper at the beginning and not at the end. This makes it difficult to rewind when it reaches the end. I would recommend taking it out now in the darkroom (no red light) and rolling it back to the beginning.

Thanks, Alex. I was able to extract the film, in a changing bag, roll it back as tightly as I could and transported the roll into another A12 magazine. I heard what sounded like slightly crinkling of the paper but maybe that was just the sound of the paper. I was being very slow and careful.

I almost forgot. That film back that I had the blank counter issue with: I was winding it with no film inside and now number #1 shows up? Maybe this was a glitch of some kind? For now on I will check after winding film on to see of #1 displays.

The other film back that the film is in now I see that the crescent window on the side is showing all white indicating that the film is fresh and loaded. On the other film back that had the blank counter issue I am remembering that the crescent window was showing white but at the very top there was a tiny piece of red showing. Like the film advanced a frame? I thought to make a note of this, if it means anything.
