Hasselblad 50mm FLE - marks on lens

I got this lens for my 500CM. How bad is this? I bought it just in time before the govt here brings in sales tax at the border. I have emailed the seller ....

Shoot it at different distances and focal lengths - in challenging ways, and see how it performs.

If I am seeing this right it looks like a form of “Schneideritis” a defect in the black paint on the interior of the lens. Shouldn’t affect anything picture wise.

I could sent it but all the way back to Japan for a refund. The seller has only offered $20. What would you do?

The other thing is with this FLE lens, the depth of view lock slider. When you slide to lock, do you have to lift up and slide to unlock it? I ask because with my 80mm CF standard lens you only have to slide to unlock.

Looks to me like a bit of separation between two lens elements. It probably won't affect anything too much, but if it were me I would return it. That feature will affect resale value (and reduce buyer interest) if you should want to sell it later.

In terms of the DoF slider, you have to rock it backwards before it will unlatch and slide forward again. It's the same mechanism on both CF and CFi/CFE lenses, but with the CFs it's a bit easier to unlock because the slider is larger and knurled.

If you got it for darn cheap, keep it. Otherwise I'd second GLS's statement and return it. From what I have seen during various trips to Japan, Hassy prices seem quite high there.

Yep! Depends on what you paid for lens. While I have no problem with my old Hasselblad lenses, my ancient Kilfitt lenses, which date from my 1000F days do exhibit a little separation around edges. But otherwise lenses are crystal clear with perfect surface elements, no fungus and good mechanical condition, they are better than anything I see for sale now.
So if you can find a lens with perfect lens at same price I would return it. If really cheap, keep it while looking for a perfect lens at the right price...your tight price.

Thanks guys. I got it for $600US delivered to my door. The lens is actually in very good condition, both the body of the lens and the numbers and letters printed on the lens, just a few light scratches there. The lens is very nice also. Using a torchlight, the white marks is below the inner lens towards the side, looks like it is off the black metal there. Maybe I will negotiate for a higher compensation than his suggested $20.

Looking back at the photo's it was showing a bit when the lens is angled to the side. When the photo is taken parallel to the camera the marks do not show up. The seller replied to my email and said he didn't noticed those marks.

Looks like shneideritis to me too. It's nothing to worry about except for affecting resale value. But, for $600 you should have a perfect lens. There's a great looking one at national camera exchange for $350 right now with a front element scratch that, for the price, I'd rather have than this one. I say return this, get that.
