Hasselblad 500 - loading film

Not sure what is going on. Been a while I used it. I open it, loaded the film and put the insert into the cassette. I then turned the spindle but it never came to a stop and the number 1 didn't show it felt tight so I stopped.

I used my dark bag and took the film out.

Without the film, I opened and closed it. I then turned the spindle and it came to a stop and showed 1. So what's going on. Not sure, if I turned the spindle and paused and then turn it, does this affect it? Or maybe I haven't used it in 1yr something went wrong inside?

Now I taken the film out of it, can I reuse it?

In total darkness (you cannot see your hand 6 inches in front of your face any position you turn to) or changing bag start the backing paper of the wound film onto an empty spool. Keep the spools within 2 inches of one another. When you reach the end of the film it will be loose, start it one turn onto the take up spool pulling it as tight as possible. Finger prints on the last half inch of film should not be a problem. Keep the film and spool close to each and as tight as possible. When you reach the taped end of the film there might be slight bump that will flatten out on its own.
Using greater distances, not keeping the film tight or fully unrolling then rerolling will result in the lead edge of the film having to be retaped to relieve the bulge or buckle in the film.

Yes, your back is reusable. It might need an overhaul but don’t dispose.

or pitch the film and start with a fresh roll; chances are that roll of film was the root cause of your problem to begin with.

pausing during the initial winding wouldn't cause a problem. Do you know if the counter reset when you took the insert out initially?
As mentioned you can recover the film, I doubt that the film was a cause.

I had a back that was gummed up. Wouldn't stop at 1 when winding. I fixed it with old trichlorotrifluoroethane banned stuff. Probably needs to be cleaned.

Thanks all, I have successfully reloaded the roll.

@bdial - yes the counter was just blank at the beginning I think. When I turned the spindle nothing showed up / changed.

Could it be that the insert was not fully in the film back? The door flip lock was down. When I successfully reloaded the film, I turned the dark slide the other way so not sure if that was a bit in the way.

I doubt it, it all fits together pretty precisely, I don't think you could engage the lock with the insert partially in. The insert would hang up on the darkslide if the bale is facing the wrong way, but it hangs up 5 or 6 mm from the shell in that case.

I had the OP's problem. My Hasselblad repairman cleaned and adjusted it. The problem is that the pin in the back is not popping out and completing engaging the counter.
