Hasselblad 500 C/M problem with Planar 80, mirror dos not return under specific conditions.

I'm new here, thank you for accepting me.
My first post has a mystic title. Because the problem is rather odd.

Hasselblad 500C/M fully serviced
Planar 80 fully serviced, + the back lens exchanged (original lens had damage)

When I make an exposure with this lens set at a position between infinitve and -about- 8 meter, the mirror does not release completely after the exposure.
I know that the connection between the lens and the body should make this happen, but for some reason this mechanism is stuck. But only between 8 and infinitive.
Of course I have checked the same camera with two other lenses -150 and 40 mm also fully serviced- with these lenses the above problem did not occur, everything as normal.

I made a video that shows what happens.
The image shows the mechanical part that transfers function to the casing with the mirror mechanism.
I suspect that this part (on the lens) is not moving free anymore but I think it's odd that it only happens between 8 meters and infinity set on the distance dial.






Before I send the lens back to the firm that did an overhaul and changed the back lens element on the Planar 80 I want to know what could be going on.

So my question here, if someone has an idea.
What could be wrong with the Planar 80, can I do something simple myself?

My first thought is that the rear lens group is protruding too far into the body and the mirror is unable to complete its travel, but hey, Im no expert

If it were serviced just prior to you discovering this problem, stop and send it back immediately! Do NOT do anything yourself or it will probably void their repair warranty!

You state the 80mm had rear elements replaced with the service; this sounds like the problem has been ongoing with this lens and, as hastagquack suggests, is probably hitting the mirror.

I would have to wonder why the camera repair service person did not catch this issue!

Edit: I'm no Hasselblad expert, but the retaining ring around the rear lens element looks totally wrong to me! It appears cocked at an angle and protruding, but that may be an optical illusion. Those two bright spots on the ring may be where the mirror is hitting this ring.

Dont' fire it any more or you may need a new mirror in addition!

Thanks for the answer.
I thought that as well, but I think the lens is free from the mirror. But I doubt …..
You can see in the video that the mirror does come up, the poblem is that it does not return (but only when focus is between 8 meter and infinitive).

Thanks. I discovered it recently and did not make any expusures with it.
Yes I send it back. But somehow my trust in the repair firm has changed …..

I suspect that the shutter shaft is worn out. Once you have your problem resolved. My Hasselblad repairman recommends firing all lenses 10 to 15 times as 1 second every three months. I do mine on 1 January, 1 April, 1 July and 1 September.

Not the camera, because with my other lenses I do not have this problem.

The shutter shaft is in the lens. I had one fail. It would sound like the exposure was take and I could advance the film but the shutter never opened.

Cutout on the shroud at the back of the lens should be pointing up. When you focus to infinity, mirror will hit this shroud.
Shroud needs to be rotated so cutout faces up and provides clearance for mirror. Rear element is very close to the mirror.
Don't try to wind at infinity. It will break the mirror.

That sound bad, meaning they assambled the lens completely wrong.
But I agree with you. The lowest point should be at the other side of the connection lens - mirror mechanism, pointing upwards as you write.

Yes, I never used force winding, as soon as I noticed something wrong I stopped.

To update this:

I have the lens back, the back end part in the right position.
Reason why it went wrong? They failed to perform an endcontrol, with the lens mounted on a camera. Simple as that. The tech made an mistake, and no one noticed.

I was careful and did not force anything, so I do not think the mirror has been damaged.

Would I co back to this repair shop?
The other lenses, the camerahouse and two backs were carefully handled. Reasonable price as well. So yes. The workshops for these old cameras and lenses are hard to find ….
