Does anyone have a picture taken with the Hasselblad 40mm CF fle lens (not the CFE-IF version) with the horizon or other straight line near the edge of the frame? I would like to see how much straight line distortion there is with the fle version. I have the older 40mm Zeiss lens for my Rollei SL66 and there is no noticeable straight line distortion, see the photo attached. I may be switching to Hasselblad and would prefer the CF version to the older compur shutter version.
dude---check hasselbladhistorical website---it has lens data, including distortion, for all the lenses----I just bought a 40mm C T* lens--NOT CF, NOT CF-FLE, ...the C version--the reason is the distortion graphs on that website---it shows the 40 C lens is the superior lens when distortion is the issue--
otherwise--I'd recommend you RENT one---calumet has rentals I believe....just to see and compare---I went by the graphs myself.
Guys, I know all about the info available at Zeiss, I have seen everything there. I know the C lens has around 1% distortion and the fle has around 1.3%. What I don't know is what that looks like.
well..I just developed 2 rolls shot today---very straight edged---(used the grid overlay)...buildings downtown...plumb straight shot from the roof of a highrise----absolutely no distortion that I noticed...
the other dude say no distortion either------SO...me, myself, if I had the other lens, I'd always SEE distortion...but. man, that c lens is nice all by itself...I don't think any other lens you'd see a difference...it's NICE--probably same as the sl66--don't mess with success--you want better image quality close up or something...then you sacrifice something...although 1 to 1.3 aint much....but I'd "see" it in my mind...and my pocketbook...I'm very pleaseed with the c...coated t*
The only optical difference is the movement of one of the elements (the FLE being referred to) - which only changes positions when you're focusing very closely. When focussed on most 'normal' distances (beyond 2m let's say) the two lens formulations are IDENTICAL. What you read was mostly Zeiss rhetoric to get you to buy a new lens. Hey- it WORKS, right? I'd say for almost all intents and purposes - go with the non-FLE version.
