Hi there,

I am usually not one to compare MTF charts, but I came across two old catalogue pages from the Hasselblad Carl Zeiss 120mm CFE and CFi lenses. Both seem to be identical in terms of optical design, but the MTF charts vary significantly. Also, the labelling is slightly different in both, and I can't seem to make out what spatial frequencies the CFE lens was measured yet. Anyhow, can someone explain to me why these charts are so different? My guess is, that the performance is the same and the charts were just measured differently to make the CFE lens appear superior? Here are the MTFs:

CFE: https://www.zeiss.com/content/dam/c.../datasheet-zeiss-makro-planar-4120-cfe-en.pdf

CFi: https://www.zeiss.com/content/dam/c.../datasheet-zeiss-makro-planar-4120-cfi-en.pdf

The MTF graphs are the same, just arranged in a different order. The infinity ones look not good because the lenses are optimized for closeup use. The good ones are at 1:5 and the not so good ones are for infinity (the usual distance for such graphs).
For portraits, repro ratio will be less than 1:5, maybe 1:10 or 1:15 but will still be pretty sharp.

The CF, CFi and CFE versions of this lens are indeed identical in design, so the MTF should be the same too - just presented differently.

Greetings from Germany  where are you located Kahlheins?

Thank you. Near the Dutch boarder, so quite a trip from Munich. I hope the weather down there is just as lovely as it is here.
