Hi all, have any of you tried the canvas bags from Mekko in Taiwan? Any comments or observations? Some of the models look like Domke canvas bags, but appear to have better inserts and, possibly, hardware. Their web page shows the only international distributor to be in Poland, but they offer shipping to your address. Thanks!

Never heard of them, but the first thing that comes to my mind is that the flaps of the side pockets do not overlap. A heavy rain and the water, even from the main cavrr will drip/run into the side pockets. Furthermore they do not tell if the textile is waterproof, instead they say waterresistant what sounds vague concerning common use.

However as you explicetly are interestrd in this model such feature or the lack of it does not bother you. Likely I am spoiled by what the industry otherwise offers and I maybe even do not need at all...

You’re right, that bag in the image at the top of the link looks very similar to a Domke F-2, though different insert. However it includes a tiny pen holder between the side pocket and front pocket.

Those are interesting but I'd spend a little more and get a Domke.

Why? On what do you base your statement? Do you know any details about the materials or fittings of the Mekko bags?

This is the first that I've heard of Mekko. So, no. I do not know anything about the
m.
I do, however, know about the Domke bags. I have three of various ages - the oldest is over 30 years old and has not failed in any way. The canvas is all soft now and a little dirty but, it has no rips , tears nor even any loose threads.
Domke bags are made in the USA, backed by a (lifetime?) warranty and widely available at local shops and on-line.
The Domke bags are extremely good and well worth the money.
You can get a genuine Domke F2 for around $120 and it'll last a lifetime.
