Has anyone noticed a NEW Film processing lab has just opened in St. Kilda???

Seems hard to believe - it's underneath the Astor Theatre - so you can go and watch a film, whilst they process your film!!

Not Large Format though, only up to 120 format. I hope they survive!!! Dead Link Removed

Enthusiast labs seem to pop up all over the place nowadays, I've seen several open in my own country lately. The best thing is they're all very focused on quality instead of volume.

Seems from their price list that they're only doing C-41 at the moment. B&W coming soon, but no mention of E-6.

Thanks for the heads-up, Marc. Pity they're in St Kilda (but that's my problem, not theirs).

LJH, they do mention E6 - they're not doing it because it needs volume to justify the chemicals.

I'm opening full time as of 21st of June, don't have a commercial premise, though can pick up and drop off in in city, and also have shared dark room in Brunswick East.

I'll process E-6 in all formats up to 4x5" atm.

I think it's only a natural evolution. As film photography transforms from mass market to a niche market the old style labs that depended on big volume and less discerning customers will give way for a new generation of labs with passionate people who service passionate customers.

From time to time I work with a guy who used to run his own lab before his studio went completely digital. He still has a lot of the equipment, brings in little treats for me from time to time (a couple weeks ago it was Schneider & Rodenstock enlarging lenses, then old 'Pro 4' filter/lens shade), he often mentions some of the larger printers & processors he's still got in storage (the amount of stuff he has just taken to the tip would make you sick), I can get details if any of you semi-pro's are after any machinery that came from a well maintained pro lab..?

Hold on to your seat Mike, cos I don't think it was just one! He was a fairly early adopter to digital, and couldn't even give away half his gear in the early 2000's... He obviously wasn't talking to the right people, I know...

My biggest is a Eurogon Dichroic 4x5".. dark room I'm sharing already has a durst dichroic 4x5" in it though.
