Got a notification from B&H that Harmon Direct positive is in stock. I ordered a couple of boxes to give it a try. Sounds fun and interesting.
 
You can get the specs from Harman/Ilford's website but I think it is.

This is great news. I can finally start using my current stock without worrying about how I am going to replace it.

Just so you know (and if you already do forgive this message) you'll need a special safelight filter for the Direct Positive paper. I forget off hand which Ilford number it is. I've found also that my standard chemistry, Liquidol dev., stop and fixer are more than adequate. Best of luck - it's fun!

I've used the DP paper since it came out and have not changed either of my safelights. These consist of a paterson red one, a paterson orange one and a small red led light unit which is much brighter than the two others combined. I therefore wonder if any safelights need changing at all. A quick light test with a bit of the paper would soon tell you the answer, as each darkroom will vary.

Equally, I used my standard Ilford MG developer, Kodak stop and Ilford fixer, all with no problems. :smile:

The filter is the 906 Dark Red for ortho materials. The Kodak #2 filter might be the closest otherwise.

I read this rather casually and ordered some. My test clips just now came out pure white. I'm using an amber (OC?) safelight and it got maybe a couple minutes exposure from about three feet away while I cut the paper. Is this enough to completely expose the paper?

SAFELIGHT RECOMMENDATIONS
Unexposed paper must only be used with Ortho (deep red) safelight such as ILFORD 906 containing a 15W bulb or equivalent. As a precaution against fogging, it is advised that the light be a minimum of 1.2m/4ft from the paper at all times.

Brown/Amber safelights will (reverse) fog (lighten) this paper very quickly. The desensitising dye sensitivity extends into the orange unlike our normal papers with dye sensitivity that only extends as far as green.

Thanks for checking in, David. Yes, I discovered this the hard way, but my total loss is one sheet of paper, so I can carry on. Without a red safelight, I did a preflash test in total darkness (not fun) and got results. So lesson learned, and I'm good to go now...
