I have nothing to do with this contest (other than wanting to eventually submit an entry some year), but the Hariban Award is an annual competition for those working in black and white images (film or digital). You win an all-expenses (flight and hotel) paid trip to Kyoto for 2 weeks in the fall, learn about the collotype process at Benrido so they can reproduce your images to your specifications, and have a private gallery showing during the Kyotographie photo event in the spring of 2020.

I've done a collotype workshop at Benrido in the past, there are a few posts about it here on APUG (I mean, Photrio), if you do a search.

For those of you interested, the deadline is the end of June. Here's the link: Hariban Award

After receiving one of your postcards done with this process (if I remember correctly Rachelle?) I'm definitely going to have a look at this competition.

The prize you mention sounds awesome, although I'm not sure how many partners would tag along if the winner is going to spend the two weeks learning this process?

PS Okay, I've had another very brief look at the submission page. Two other main points jumped out at me along with above point and may be of interest to others in deciding if they want to take part:

1. The entry fee is $46 US

2. One has to submit 12 / twelve pictures as their entry.

If I get my stuff together, I'll be applying.

Yeah, it's a bit pricey, but that's Japan for you. I think the 12 pictures is not unreasonable since they want to look at a portfolio of work that can (and will) be displayed in their gallery. That said, that's what's holding me back from applying, since I need to put together said portfolio to do so.
