I saw the Robert Frank show on Saturday. The Met was jammed. They had six Vermeer's on display as well as The Americans. We spent the entire afternoon in total awe. Frank's contact sheets were amazing because you could follow his eye, frame after frame. I think some of the rejects were better than some of the final shots which made the book. Frank explains this by saying that he didn't want "formula" images included. Some of his earlier prints were shown, which I had never seen before. Very dark, both in tone and subject.
