I recently was given a Fujinon ES 75mm F4.5 enlarging lens that had the aperture ring and iris mechanism removed. I have been puzzled by the fact that the lens had been gutted.

I have been watching ebay for another for perhaps combine parts and came across another in like new condition that had been stripped of the aperture ring and iris mechanism.

Anyone know why this is? Aliens? Some strange application? Used in a photofinishing printer?

Wondering.....

Maybe the iris mechanism was dodgy, and someone decided to use the lens as a loupe.

I have since seen another on the auction site with the iris missing and I have also seen a Fuji-Xerox version without an iris. It seems the lens was probably used on a photocopier.
