I was always going to keep this one, and I still may. Somebody, sometime, probably our friends at Burke and James, has coated this old baby. It's not perfect, you can see some mottling, but I've learned with coatings, that means absolutely nothing. The coating in this case is definitely an asset.

It's in a very nice Betax 5 which is running perfectly. This is the perfect entry level 8X10 lens.

It's obviously made an unscheduled trip to the floor. I hope the guy had steel toe shoes on because these baby's are heavy.

Survived it fine. No affect on the images which is what this lens is all about. Gundlach had a thing about paying license fees back in the day so they came up with their own designs based on the famous ones. This is a Tessar with 3 cemented glasses in the rear element instead of 2.

It's a dead ringer for a tessar as far as look. Smooooooooooth! Put a Heliar neg next to one from this and tell me which is which. It's a great old lens. $285 + shipping.

How does the Radar compare to a Dagor?

It's a much bigger lens than the equivalent 12" Dagor. It probably contains twice the raw glass and weighs at least twice as much. Then coverage is 60 degrees with the Radar, 80 degrees with the Dagor. A 12" Dagor will easily cover 11X14. This lens just covers it's target 8X10. Both have a fine sharp look. I can't tell any difference in the contrast.

That really is a great looking lens and would compliment an 8 x 10 Deardorff perfectly. Someone needs to snap this up.
