Hey Apug,

I am looking at building a sliding box camera for 4x5 film similar to the 8x10 sliding box camera that is described in Primitive Photography by Alan Greene. I want to build a Guillotine shutter to put between my homemade lens and the box camera.I plan to make several slots for different shutter speeds.I was wondering does anyone know what size of a slot for the shutter equals what shutter speed?
for example a 1/4" slot equal about what shutter speed.

thanks,
Scott Hunnicutt

Scott: To eliminate the variables in calculating, designing and constructing a guillotine shutter, just build it and check its speed by any of the methods often used for checking speeds in this range such as an analog TV screen or LP turntable, a neon or other gaseous discharge lamp, etc. Based on that, shutter slides can be constructed for other speeds.
